Hi, i'm having some problems with a new pc. On my old one i managed to change paint and the like to accept jpeg and art files but have totally forgotten how to do this, anyone any ideas?
Also when i go to save a pic say off the net, i go into save as and there is only the original file format or bitmap. Anyway i can change this to include jpeg and art?
Cheers, crypt.

Does "paint" actually support those file formats? I thought it just dealt with bitmap (.bmp) files? You need something like Paint Shop Pro, available from

Depending on the version of Windows you have you should have the following software, do the following,
Start/Programs/Accessories/Imaging
It comes as part of Windows and is meant to open any type of Image File. If it is not there you can Add/Remove Programs and go to Windows Set-up tab to add it (I think). You would need to CD of Windows or a back-up of the disk on your HD.
See if that helps.

Got imaging, but still cannot save as differant file types.
What I really want to do is change say a .art to a Jpeg and vice versa.
Would I need a special program for this?
Cheers for the help guys.

Sure, just open the file and go File->Save as, and choose what file type you want to save it as. I think it'll take either the extension you give it, or you can select from a drop down list of formats. I don't know for sure, don't actually use Windows.
Good luck,
Steve.

That's because imaging has two components -- viewer and editor. If you open in the viewer you can't do anything with it (except I think there's a menu item marked 'Open for Editing'). ART format is used by AOL for their images. Go for Paint Shop Pro (it supports batch conversion, i.e. 'convert all these ART files to JPG and tell me when you've done it'), or Graphics Workshop Professional which is easier to use as it doesn't have all the painting facilties of PSP.
