Check with the venue how much notice they need and make sure the RSVP date is a week or so before that so you have time to chase people up if needed.
I would allow two - three months, depending on the time of year. My sister in law is planning her wedding, which will be a summer wedding, and in advance of the invites, they sent out little notes telling people of the date well in advance so people don't go booking their holidays on the same day.
We got married last year in mid April, and sent the invites out in mid January with people expected to RSVP by the end of March.
Some still needed a reminder though

ASAP witb an RSVP at least 3 weeks before (to allow for slackers). People get booked up for the summer so plenty of advance warning will ensure a good attendance. Send invitations to the scabby relatives you'd rather not come (we all have them, the social outcasts who nobody wants to speak to) about a week before.
Average acceptance rate is about 75%. Mind you, we had about 99% acceptance for our evening bash and went over the permissible numbers by quite a way.
Only 2 jobs? You're getting away lightly.

LC - im not trusted to do anything else
However my suit and the music are definitely gonna be my choice. Aint having no Dina Carrol/Ce Ce Peniston/Whitney Houston poop on my wedding day. Strictly a disco and jazz funk night !!
We have 40 people to the ceremony and 65 in the evening so dont really expect many no-shows....

My wedding is at the end of September and the invites are going out in June. You need to consider invites carefully or at least we did! The invites need to go out early enough so that if some people can't make it, you have enough time to invite more to fill the gaps.
Those you definitely want there you may want to tell the date before the invites go out so they can make a note and make sure they aren't on holiday.

Traditional etiquette suggests posting them 6 weeks ahead. However, you may wish to consider having an A-list and a B-list. Especially if they are going to need to book rooms in the hotel where you're doing the booze-up and there might not be enough rooms.
A-list - 8 weeks ahead, followed by a phone call to check that they understood the need to book.
B-list 6wks
Of course this adds further complications to the decision, who is on the A-list / B-list etc.
good luck

What, no "Oops up side"? No "YMCA"? Just jazz? Nice!! Smoooth! I used to be a mobile DJ and I've seen some of the cheesiest weddings in history
Having re-read your post and realised that your wedding in in Feb 2004, maybe now is a bit too soon. July would seem to be about right time to send out invites for a Feb wedding. I'll look forward to receiving mine

LOL @ LC. I too used to do mobiles and still do corporates. That is why i will shoot anyone that plays Club Tropicana. I always vowed i would never have cheesy party music at my wedding.

The day after the wedding Save yourself a fortune on the reception
Seriously, once the date is finalised, send out the invitations asap. The more notice the better.

So, you won't be having Lady In Red as your song then!!!
Another tip for would be wedding organisers - keep the number of kids to a minimum. They tend to spend the evening running around on the dance floor which stops the adults from strutting their stuff. With lots of kids about, the party will never really get going and will be dominated by Agadoo style music. ARRRGGGGGHHHHHH

All depends, if it is a summer wedding, then the earlier the better (so people dont bugger off and book their summer hols)
