Question

When you have a private plate and you swap the numbers back to sell/Part Ex

Do you get back the ORIGINAL number that the car HAD?

The MOT, if applicable has the private reg on it AND the Tax has too ................ how do you get these two changed?? and at what cost?

Finally, if you buy a NEW car - and want a private plate on it - do you have to pay the dealer for registration/plates (to apply when you later sell the car?)

Second Finally!! What does all this cost in TOTAL??

I really would like to keep my plate!

No you don't get the original plate back, or at least I didn't.

The rest I can't help with.

The mot would be stamped by them with the new reg no, when I did that, I DID get the original no for the car back, it makes tracing the history of things a but simpler!

All the above is correct as for the MOT they stamp the original document with the changed reg.

Thumbs up

Thanks all - seems easy, as I have the old plates to screw on!!

But could be expensive?!

Price of snobbery I suppose??

Claim that you had the windows etched with the old number plate, and they should give you the old plate back.

I was informed by the DVLA (when I purchased my private plate) that should I want to transfer the plate to another vehicle, then they will try and issue your original plate back

Failing to do that, they will issue a different one for the same year that the car was registered

AFAIK you pay the 80 quid transfer fee again to have the number transferred to your new vehicle, or i think 125 quid to have it put on retention if no vehicle for the plate to go on

edited to say, that also the Tax disc was changed FOC for my new private plate, but I didnt have an MOT, so unsure what would happen in that situation

Steve
