tis true, I saw it years ago, they used a rocket sled with the airplane on top,
Only the wing tips were left and that's because the wall was about 4 inches too narrow
amazing to watch

It was on last night - a program all about crash testing. I think it was on Channel 4 or 5.
It was pretty spectacular, and like you say, the wing tips survived the impact because they were wider than the wall!!

Ultimate crash tests or something on C5 over the weekend, crashed a F4? Phantom jet into a section of concrete wall used for nuclear reactors and yes, it pretty much atomised, jet goes in and vanishes, cloud of smoke/dust comes out.

did anyone ever see the programme about the guy that tested the first seatbelts, i think in the 50's.
strapped to a rocket sled, 400+ - 0 mph in a couple of seconds. when he got off ( or rather got carried off ) the sled he was a total mess - eyeballs had turned bright red with the forces, amongst other hideous side effects.
brave bloke.

Was an F4. Used to work with people who maintained these jets and they had the full test video in the crew room for showing to the pilots on occasion

Yeah it was 'Ultimate Crash Tests' - loads of slo-mo footage of everything from aforementioned Phantom on rocket sled to Nuclear Bomb casings being propelled THROUGH thick concrete walls, to fully (dummy) laden Boeing 707 being crashed remotely (seen that before though.
The best bit in my opinion was the trains crashing into trailers with Nuclear containers on - you actually saw the destruction whereas the explosive stuff just vaporised...
They also had footage of the poor guy on the rocket sled - he didn't look too happy......
