In 5 days with the g/f for her birthday
Question is where should we go and where should we not go
I need to know about bars / clubs / restaurants as well as museums and all the cultural stuff?
I'm allowed to window shop in the red light district - I'm sure she has something up her sleeve though
I also need to know about some 'cafes', bering in mind we are both non-smokers, but do have healthy appetites (if you know what I mean?)
All suggestions are more than welcome. Please help a pair of first time visitors enjoy themselves

hi mate
check out this thread - some good info
http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/thread.asp?ThreadID=166832
take it very easy with the hash cakes/ drinks - can take quite a while to kick in, don't fall into the trap of "this isn't working, let's have some more" and hace a full on trip - you won't be the first if you do!
best restaurant site by a mile is http://www.iens.nl/english/restaurantsIn/Amsterdam/
anywhere worth eating is listed and it's in English too.
Deffo hire a bike, plenty of bike hire places around Centraal station, there are a couple off Dam Square and at least one near the Leiseplein.
Avoid taxis and walk/tram if possible - very expensive and the centre is so small you can walk across it in no time.
Also - bring your warm clothes, it's fecking freezing at the moment!
cheers
Ian

mate, u goin to the best damn city in the world, but wit ya bird!??!?! hmmm, she must damn well trust you!
well, clubbing wise, the city is great, with a really lively atmosphere
weather wise, i agree, take some warm clothing, can get rather nippy
red-light, hmmmmm...... very good selection. i think she may get a bit put off though when one of the women beckons you and says 70 for a threesome!
foodwise, i agree, all 3 major fastfoos chains are right next to each other near dam sq, but i'll tellu something, you have to try a kebab from amsterdam, i loved them!
where u staying? best to try and find something central as the cost isnt that much more, and it leaves you in the perfect palce in terms of access
have fun, and drop me a line if you need more help

Red_Dog You'll be ok - I'll make it up to you when I come back
Raks - She does trust me, and lets face it, its not like I can misbehave while she's with me is it? It was her idea to go - I just said wherever you want to go, we'll go I knew there was a reason I liked her
Any particuarly good clubs that we shouldn't miss? I have a feeling I will be trying a kebab - its all in the night out ritual
We are staying at the Le Meridian Apollo - I believe it is walking distance to everything, and it looks a stunning hotel so we should be ok.
Oh I think we will have fun and thanks for everything, its been a help
