There was a thread many eons ago that mentioned some speaker cable so thin you could stick it to the wall, paint over it and it was virtually invisible. Anyone got any idea where to get some ?

Do you mean flat 'Selotape' stuff or hair fine stuff? I used the Selotape stuff and it seems to work well, A nightmare to unravel though as it coils up right away and is hard to get straight again.
got it from here http://www.beyondhifi.net/shopping/P....asp?CatID=161

I saw some ultra thin ribbon cable 10 core speaker wire a while back
100 quid a metre tho, but was made of silver, supposed to have been excellent quality, but I imagine it would have to be at that price
you could fold this over, lay it under your carpet etc etc

Do you mean flatline speaker cable??
I have some. It is excellent quality & coated in Teflon to protect the wiring.

RiMo - That looks like top stuff. I'll look around for some more agreeable prices.
Thanks Neil too for the link
