Advice all please - just had the phone bill through and it has more than doubled since last time

Needless to say not very happy especially as internet calls have gone up to about £20-25 per month.

Therefore I want to sign up for one of the monthly deals - i.e. BTInternet at £5.99 a month for evenings and weekends.

Has anybody any experience, and can recommend a good ISP for this?

I use ntlworld. The internet if free 24/7 as long as you spend £15 on other calls. If you dont reach £15, they just round the bill up to £15. Have a look at

Hi there DW, we use bt-internet and I've not had any probs. We use netscape for our e-mails which I'll be changing soon as we've just got a new computer. A friend uses freeserve with the bt £5.99 a month and he says it's great. Speak to ya soon.

Use freeserve £14.95 unlimited.

No problems - Support ISDN and normal lines on the same number which helps me.

Availability and speed have been good.

I've just changed to Line One on BT surftime despite reading several times that surftime was crap it seems fine to me.
Free evenings and weekends 1p per mionute all other times, £9.99 per month.

BT Surftime is just the name of the (BT) billing option for "free" calls for a fixed monthly cost. It uses the same phone line from your house - but it depends how your ISP handles things their end as how good or crap it is in practice!

I heard blueyonder broadband is pretty cool.
£33 or £25 if you have it with another telewest service...

Anyone use this..is it any good?

Also heard its an open door to get your pc hacked so needs some personal firewall software aswell..

You'll need a firewall of some sort for any 24/7 service ( cable modem / dsl etc ).

I use AOL with unlimited access 24/7 for £15 a month. This was after a £200 bill from BT Surftime! When I queried this, it was because my then ISP freebeeb.net were not part of the agreement (even though we were told they were when signing on). To their credit, BT gave an immediate full refund.

I'm happy with AOL. Daytime access is surprisingly handy as opposed to just evenings and weekends. This is when BT make their margin. AOL also give you 99 hours free when you first sign on.

AOL service is good, too. I had some trouble reloading after a hard disc failure and their guy spent 20 minutes talking me through it, then double checking everything to make sure the same problem wouldn't happen again.

Thanks for the advice everyone.

I am now setting up my own business, so will be moving onto a cable connection from NTL.

Only £25 a month for 24/7 high speed access (i.e. Napster tunes in seconds type speed )
