Did anyone hear on the radio today, about experts say that men who don't shave everyday have more chance of getting heart disease. What a load of rubbish. I mean who are these so called "experts". How did they get from not shaving to heart disease?

it might be a lifesyle thing. I shave about once a week - personal appearance is not a major factor for me, (come to think of it,neither is hygene - I have had the same clothes on since monday

It's like when the "experts" say that every year a piece of rain forest the size of wales get cut down. The problem is they have been saying this for the last 20+ years, so if you do the math there should be no rain forest but we still have tons of the stuff.

A Professor and his team at Bristol Uni followed 2438 men from Wales between early 1980's and 2000. Aged between 45 and 59 at the start. By the end 835 (34.3%) had died. Of those that did not shave every day, 45.1% had died. Of those that did shave every day, 31.3% had died.
Ergo, men who do not shave every day are 30% more likely to die of heart disease and nearly 70% more likely to have a stroke.

..and I bet they got paid a stupidly large Govt grant to come up with that finding!
It's the public funding which goes into really life-changing studies like "why cornflakes go soggy" that make life worthwhile.

I'd at least like to see the breakdown of those not shaving every day; I'd suspect that those who shaved once every 3 days slobbed out in front of the TV with a beer, with the gut to prove it, and those who had a full-grown beard also wore sandals, read the Guardian, ate muesli, and went rambling at weekends. I doubt they would die of heart disease.

I would guess that the study studied lots of lifestyle factors, including diet, exercise, smoking etc etc etc, however in a single paragraph in the middle of a 500 page paper, the fact was noted about shaving.
Some clever git has spotted this, and decided it is more newsworthy than anything else in the report.
We (and I include myself in this) are always liable to jump to conclusions when presented with partial facts...blame the sensationalist press (and a dodgy educational system)
