Read your policy - i am sure that it varies.
If you get an Orange contract phone, you get free cover for a year anyway. If you upgrade, you get another years cover!

Mine is covered by household insurance. Unless you get an orange phone I wouldnt take one that they try and sell you as it is a rip off.
When I renewed my house insurance all the companies i phoned round covered mobiles in their policies.
