Sometime in the 70's or 80's, I seem to remember the national speed limit for single carriageways being reduced from 70mph to 60mph?
Does anyone remember this, or know any more about it? Or am I just imagining things?

Yup single carriageway is 60mph on an A road, duelcarriageway is 70mph. (should also state this in the new version of the highway code).

I know it's 60 on the single carriageway now, but did it used to be 70mph, back in the 70's / early 80's?

And can I remember it being 60 on dual carriageways Except motorways where it was 70, and 50 on single carriageways?
Petrol crisis anyone?

I seem to remember it being 70 on a single when I passed my test in 1987. I would guess that it changed just after (88 or 89 maybe?)
