It will have been the Lidl advert, if you notice it was deleted from your original post by the moderators. I made a comment to express my disappointment that the most funny advert in the list posted was deleted. I guess a few other points of view might have been posted, which then got out of hand and the thread was removed.

I was fishing the other day. Caught a fish, not sure what it was. Viscious looking bugger. Looked a bit Pike-y. Or is that Pike-like?
Oh and I find it hilarious that an advert containg the p word was removed, yet when I complained about the Mein Kampf post containing a link to a White Supremecist (sp?) website (not to mention Mein Kampf itself) not a thing was done about it.
So, let's not offend the "travelling folk" but if your Jewish or non-white, it's apparently fine.

Hold on a mo. That Mein Kampf post was mine and I didn't ask for a link to be put on. I was just seeing if anyone had read it and what it was like. I don't agree with what Hitler did. I'm just interested in reading about what makes people 'tick'. I've read lots of books about muderers, rapists and villains but that doesn't make me one of em! Can't see your problem really.

red_dog,
my problem wasn't with you or your desire to read Mein Kampf, it makes interesting reading. My complaint was the fact that the link was to a White Supremecist website which contained very offensive material, much more offensive than the p-word used in the thread discussed above.
This isn't a go at you, more disbeleif at the inconsistent moderating that we've seen here.

REV,
I looked at the link in the Mein Kampf thread very quickly. I didn't inspect the site further as I was very busy but as it just looked to be a copy of the book I didn't take further action.

Ahhhh! I get you now (maybe I should have re-read your post before I went off on one!) I apologise.
I actually went on that site before posting the original message and although I guessed what it was about, didn't go any further (like ChrisB).
I've got the book now anyway!

I'd like to know why my thread" Name five tory policies" was moved.
Moving a serious thread from NSR to Muppets suddenly changes the emphasis of the thread.
Sorry Diablo.....i think you were wrong

Yet again guys - many of you are not in full possession of the facts. I can't comment on the thread that was deleted as I haven't seen it. However, what you won't know is that once again, last week, Simon was threatened with serious legal action over a post. According to Simon, the wording of the letter left him in no doubt that they were deadly serious. I'm not going into details, but please remember, that deleting posts is the last resort.

Point taken, but could we not know more of the facts and stop the toys coming out of the prams? Surely if Simon is threatened with legal action from company ‘x’, or organisation ‘y’ can he not make that public, conveying their grievance and putting peoples minds at rest.
For example ************** posted this showing Mr Beckham using a speak and spell. If he was sad enough I'm sure he could bring action against scoobynet and have the post deleted. My point is why can't we be told of the intended action so everyone fully understands the moderation performed?
Perhaps we could subscribe to an e-mailing list set up for people to receive the reasons off line thus keeping scoobynet safe but interested parties informed?
Just my thoughts.
David

Thanks mate (I think ) - my point really is that it isn't always that simple. I, like everyone else, would like to see a time when moderating wasn't required and we could post what we like. That isn't possible. It's never easy - as you say, what one person finds offensive, another finds it funny. We get caught in the middle.
If anyone knows of a fullproof solution please let Simon know. Also be aware that if you look at the current EU directives (which will soon become part of UK law) on offensive material, then the situation could become a lot worse

But surely if someone could sue for using the term then Guy Richie and all at Ska films would have been sue'd to death, with all the references in ******?

Rik - who knows? The way things are going I wouldn't be surprised if someone tried it!
Sometimes actions can appear to be heavy handed, but Simon isn't in a position to fight lengthy and costly legal defences. The sad fact of the matter is that in our wonderful country, the guy with more money and the better lawyer will invariably win. Not fair, but a fact. Faced with the option of Scoobynet closing or moderating some of the posts - which would choose?
I'm not being melodramatic - it isn't my head on the block it's Simon's - but if we want to maintain the board, then we have to take practical steps. It is highly unlikely that we will please everybody all of the time. You don't become a moderator to win friends and influence people
All I ask is that people consider what they are posting and the impact it might have. As I said before, I haven't seen the original post that this thread relates to, so I can't comment and why the action was taken. This post was just to try and explain the position we are sometimes left in.

Avi, whether or not I agree with your point is immaterial. Please edit the post.
Scoobynets position is clear, whether Guy Ritchie has, or has not, the same concerns is also immaterial.

Luke, its not open to debate.
The term has been decreed as being offensive. Where do you draw the line?
Is it ok to use slang terms to describe those of different ethnic backgrounds to your own?
No, I think not. So give it a rest, its getting tedious.

Well if they don't want to be called that they should start contributing to society. Between them and the foreigners that sponge off this government I can't tell who is worse. Deporting them back to where they came from would solve 50% of the current crime problems that has plagued the country. The other 50% can be solved by sending those foreign people back to their respective country.
