Question

Hi

I'm considering changing my Frontpage software for something a little better. I've heard that Dreamworks is good. Any thoughts please?

I personally use a mixture of Dreamweaver and Hotdog Pro, with an occasional bit of Front Page.

A lot of chaps I know at work swear by Dreamweaver, but it all boils down to personal preference. Best option is to try the evaluation versions first and see how you get on. I think they are only time limited so you should see full functionality.

Thanks

I'm leaning toward the Dreamweaver/Fireworks suite. The trial download is about 40mb!

Nick I should have loads of the trial Cds at work if you can't be bothered to wait ages for it to download. Let me know if you want one

Thanks, I think I'll go for the full package.

Flash lets you write Flash movies I suppose?
There's an Ultradev package option - is it any good?

Dreamweaver on its own is an excellent package. But it really starts to shine when you go for the whole Macromedia bundle.

we use DW4/FW4/Flash5 and have no regrets.

Thumbs up

Nick

This months Create magazine has trial versions of Dreamweaver 4, Fireworks 4 and UltraDev 4. UltraDev is the same as Dreamweaver but allows you to build ASP pages if you want to link your sites to a database.

Flash 5 is available on the .net CD as well.

My preference is Allaire's 'Homesite' but I'm more of a hand-coder purists kind of bloke. It'll give you good habits and a strong foundation to build on.

Alernatively, you can do some nice animation type stuff with Macromedia Flash and Dreamweaver. Its pretty easy to pick up and novices can produce sites like this:
