Can someone point me in the direction of some free/cheap CD writing software. I need to be able to write music/data CDs, and (errrr) back up other CDs.....

I am running Win2000, and have Adaptec Easy CD 3.5 with the various patches that are _supposed_ to make it work OK with Win2000.

However, I've started to get occasional "hangs" which require a reboot. When the PC boots it blue screens and displays a DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL message. The only useful reference to this in the MS Knowledge Base implies that it is due to Easy CD 3.5

So I went to Adaptec/Roxio's site, and they now say that they categorically don't support/you should not use v3.5 with Win2000. Oh, and if you want to upgrade, you have to pay $69...

Cool

CDRWIN is THE CDR burning software, and don't let anybody else tell you different!!!

DISC JUGGLER is also excellent!

Have you perchance got a creative labs dvd drive, if the answer is yes they dont get along with adaptec writing software, winaspi.dll and a couple of other files need changing from the .bak versions.

If your going to Fleet meet on sunday or can meet me at spectrum tommorrow evening email and i'll give you the software that came with my last drive.

PTHOLT,

You give me anything that needs butchering, and i'll burn it using CDRWIN m8

Believe me, I don't know of any program or disk that CDRWIN can't back-up.

er......... a friend of mine had some problems backing up some playstation 1 + 2 games with it (purely from a keep a copy in case the original dies pov) and cdrwin did have a few problemettes.

went straight through on nero tho. Tho saying that, this was not on the current version of cdrwin, was on an older one and it could have been an updated version of nero.

I would also suggest caution with searching on astalavista for cdrwin stuff, a couple of years ago the writer got the hump about people cracking his app, so put in a routine that FILLED your entire hd with .sys, .bin and other system files as a penalty (i know this from experience as it did it once and i thought i'd done something stupid, so rebuild the pc (easier than manually deleting the files) and it did it again - doh !

urls as follows :-
cdrwin -

Talking

Thanks everyone - I will get CDRWIN. If it's as good as you all say, I may even pay for it! (how quaint, and ironic, given it's use)
