wet shave always.
use mint source too.
have tried lots of different types.
use clinique m lotion afterwards too.
It isnt hot or uncomfortable, just unsightly, and I dont like it.
no way on earth I would conisder growing a beard, even if it were possible! am not a very hairy person!

steam your face over hot water 1st and then use sensitive skin shaving cram like nivea. Best IMO, just i gave up ages ago, get sick of having to shave and lose skin in the process.
Change your razor blade frequently.

I can only shave about once every 3 days due to serious rash, pain, bleeding pores ...... but is controllable if I use shaving oil (body shop, king of shaves) worked well into beard, brand new mach 3 razor, always rinse razor after a few strokes and immediately after you've finished use good old astral cream.
I've tried all the after shave balm stuff but they are all too runny and do nothing for the burn. My dad swears by astral as well, thick and gloopy but cools you down no end.
Doofus.

King of Shaves shaving gel (not the oil) - The sensitive skin with aloe vera, one of the green ones. (You could try a couple of drops of King of Shaves oil in with the shaving gel!)
Use a Sensor Excel, rather than a Mach 3. (change the blade regularly, try to do it before it starts tearing the skin off your face!! )
Use Nivia after shave balm.

Used to have the same problem, but this seems to work for me.
1. Get your face supple by getting it good and hot. A hot shower works best for me, but failing that a steaming hot flannel applied generously works.
2. Use decent shaving gel. I used to use Gilette sensitive, but now use Nivea Sensitive, because I'm worth it. It's damn good.
3. Use a decent, sharp razor
4. Go with the grain. If you want a closer shave, go against the grain after going with the grain. This works well for me, others shudder in horror at the thought of going against the grain.
5. Splash face with cold water
6. Apply Nivea Sensitive After-shave balm (no alcohol)
7. Leave to breathe for as long as possible before putting on a tight collar
Yeah, it's a pain in the neck (hoho) and sounds a bit girlie, but it works for me. Good luck on this, it used to really annoy me.
Cheers,
Nick.

Yep Ill agree with the never against the grain rule. Can get real bad razor burn if you try that.
Ive moved from Gillette Gel to Nivea which was much better. Tried Gillette again and it is pants. Even better still is King of Shaves gels. A lot closer shave although I find you do need an aftershave balm after using it to keep your skin soft.
Use a mach 3 at the moment but going back to Sensor Excel I think as Mach 3 is hard to get certain places like the corner of my lips and just under my nostrils. The blades seem to be too far away from the edge.
One thing I find weird is when in the day I shave. If I shave first thing in the morning it seems a lot smoother and closer even if I have 2-3 days growth. If I lounge around all day then shave its a lot worse and sometime painful. I always shave after having a shower so no difference. Anyone else notice this?
Simon.

I do feel for you all. I shave as often or as little as I want with just shaving gel and a sharp razor either with or against the grain and I never have a problem.

Adam - I concur with Tango..King of Shaves rocks..
..one other point to check - make sure ur not using very hot water on the blade because it may be a burn from the hot blade rather than a rash..

Gillette Mach 3 and King of Shaves - This stuff made a big difference to my skin. Use probably six drops of oil instead of three but give it a go. Boots sell it or buy online.

King of shaves is good, better than Gillete anyway.
But Dermalogica is far better. Not sold in any department stores or boots etc but much much better than any other skin care range like Clinique or whatever. Get it from authorised beauty salons.

Trust me.

Never suffered from rashes but used to use Noxia Shaving foam Gillette Mach3 and M Lotion after.
Mrs P bought me a Philishave cool shave for Christmas and for the first few days had a bit of a rash, but I used Clinique Post Shave Healer and that seemed to Cure it. It's great coz you use it in the shower so all your fluff gets nice and soft.
Must confess I get a closer shave with it than I used to wet shaving. They also have a 28 day satisfaction money back guaranty.

Havn't read all the thread but why dont you get a lecky shaver,i cant wet shave as my stubble if tough as hell and a razor pulls it and struggles and leaves me with a rash and little white spots, always had a lecky with the 3 heads and its fine.

Don't shave
Bought my hubby Nivea Aftershave Sensitive Balm (with camomile) as he gets this from time to time along with the burning sensation. Works for him.
Editted to add.
Are you sure you not reacting to your shaving stuff?

I've never had really comfortable shave in my life especially around the neck. Tried quite a lot of lotions and potions and different razors and electric shavers, the only thing that is half decent is falling asleep in a hot bath for half an hour and then shaving when the hair is mega soft - not so useful 5 minutes before you need to leave for work though.
King of Shaves seems to be significantly better than most other shaving gels - there are a few good aftershave balms and stuff but its is too late then if you have already scraped a rash over your skin, just takes the burning away a bit. Probably doesn't help me that I also like to get a very close shave and am also very heavy handed with most things. Found out from the dentist that I have brushed away some of my tooth enamel too so I expect taking skin off is easy.
