Question

Does anyone have any recommendations for where to buy tailor made shirts?

In the past I have used 40 Savile Row, but the materials they use is getting on my nerves.... crease far too easily and at £75 per shirt this is bugging me.

I live in Berkshire so somewhere closer would be helpful.

Any suggestions?

I got a 'Kendals' one - Grosvenor, I thought they were poor. Best shirts in the world are Favorbrook on Jermyn Street, but a very close second is Frank Rostron - based in manchester, but he (literally) travels the world measuring up and posts out.

That being said, for my money you really can't go wrong with PINK off the shelf shirts, far less hassle

Thre is a Pink outlet store in Swindon. Half the price you'd pay on the high street.

Matt, isn't Pink a High Street Store..???

I used to get mine from Stephens Brothers, via High and Mighty. But Stephens doesn't exist any more, and H&M's own brand shirt are rubbish, imo. I'm off to John Lewis at the weekend, i've been told theirs are excellent, but still about £75 apiece.

Question

Yes it is.??

The outlet village at Swindon has its very own Pink shop.

plus Henri Lloyd, Tommy, RL, Timberland, however Bicester is better as they have RL, Lacoste, Paul Smith.

If you're in to that sort of thing

Aha, you're saying the outlet store charges less than their High Street equivalents? Sorry, misunderstood you.

Is the stuff at these outlet stores exactly the same as what you'd buy on the High Street??

Yes - But usually last seasons stock. Some stores sell seconds and one off pieces too. Paul Smith defo does this.

Most of the major labels such as RL, Lacoste, Timberland Tommy etc just sell last seasons unsold stock. So you can buy Autumns fashions at this time of year etc.

Swindon has Van Heuson, Gap, Nike, Adidas, Burberry, Aquascutum, Henri Lloyd, RL Jeans, Tommy, Timberland, Pink, Ted Baker, Levis, Puma, Ben Sherman, Jaegar.

Bicester has (from memory) RL, Timberland, Lacoste, Donna Karan, Paul Smith, Versace, Reebok, Pepe.

Completely ignoring the fact that your request was for tailor made shirts, have you tried Marks and Spencer's 2"longer range? If length is the only reason you have to go 'tailor made' you can't really go wrong with M&S, Only problem is limited availability.

Dave
2"longer in every respect!!

Being a taller gent I use High & Mighty. Although they are expensive and seem to crease easily.
Must go and have a butchers at M&S it seems. As I don't think Staffordshire has many tailors!

You might want to have a wander down Jermyn Street next time you are in London. Full of Shirt shops that should be able to help you.

I like PINK shirts though and they last ages.

My problem is I have a neck like Mike Tyson - 18.5" and have a body for a normal 15.5" shirt.... So when I buy a shirt to fit my neck, the body and sleeves are massive!

Any further suggestions welcome!

Tom Cruise uses Hilditch and Key (also of Jermyn Street) IIRC. Last time I looked they started at around £55 (you can pay more than that for 'off the peg' ).

Hi,

Try these guys... they are very reasonably priced for a made to measure shirt, with a good choice of materials too (Similar to Thomas Pink).

Turn-around is about six to eight weeks though because their factory is in Cyprus.

I think their sale is on at the moment too.

Cheers,

Alex

Pink all day long... Then a few hand made "Copies" from Istanbul. Shops have them ready in 2 days .So many choices of cuffs and collars. And they do a perfect job.£20-30 each.

Just back from Thailand....... had another 2 designer suits made and 6 shirts, all in Thai silk.... normal and dress designs...

Once youve done this with a good Taylor he keeps your measurements so you can order via the phone or email. Good as long as you dont change too much...

2 Suits with waist coats (copies of Armani and Versace in silk), 6 shirts, 3 ties....came to £210.. Will be back in Bangkok around April , and yep will get a few more.

Jeesh - I've just lashed out £750 for a bespoke suit, and I thought it was cheap!

My tailor in Brighton does shirts - ain't as cheap as you're looking for though.

Alex,

thank you! I went to see Stephan Haroutunian Shirts Ltd in Fulham today and was thoroughly impressed!

Will have 3 new shirts delivered in week 2 of Feb! Just hope they are going to be the same standard as the others I saw!

If any one else gets their shirts tailormade then this guy is affordable and good!

Also do off the shelf shirts and have a massive range!

£55 pure cotton, choice of fabrics, cuffs, pleats, collar etc... as you would expect!

Thanks again!

It's a bummer that Sulka is no more, because their shirts rule. There is a U.S. marque, Ike Behar, that has a "made-to-measure" line of shirts, that should be fairly-priced. They're about $150-200 USD, but sport fine fabrics and workmanship.

It might be worth a check also, to see if Pink has something similar. Their shirts aren't quite top drawer, but very fine for daily/work/office use.
