After all the fun of using a digital camera at the Fleet meet, I want one!!
The one I borrowed for the day was a Sony one with zoom, and uses stick memory. Problem with quality like that is that it costs £900!!!
So I want a camera that will a good quality picture, to hopefully 1024 by 768, and have the option of removeable media.
Anyone have any ideas??
I'd prefer it to cost £250 to 300, but if more needs to be spent, then it WILL have to be arranged!
Cheers
Andy

Andy,
If you're on more of a budget, I've just bought a Fuji MX1200 from Currys for £200 and have been more than happy with the results.
The camera supports resolutions up to 1280x960 (1.3 Mega Pixels). It comes complete with a 2Mb SmartMedia card but I have just ordered a Fuji 16Mb Card (extra £40).
Cheers,
Ian.

It all depends on what you want to use it for!
For web-pages, even low-res cameras (sub-GBP100) will probably do. If you are very serious then you want to think about big, swappable lenses and multi-mega-pixel (plus multi mega dosh).
Grab a copy of "What Digital Camera" (or the free Dixons' "Camera & Camcorder buyer") to get a feel for what is out there.
Don't forget that apart from the camera you may need extra Smartmedia/Compact Flash picture storage, extra batteries, a photo-quality printer, editing software (and a PC/Mac to run it on) - it all adds up.
FWIW, i have had a Fuji MX700, MX2700 and currently FinePix 40i (very nice) digi-cams, but the Canon Ixus (3.n mega-pixel) and Sony "massive lens on small body" also look nice.
Start small and work up!

Andy I sell this type of stuff all day and would strongly recommend Kodak or Cannon as they are a doddle to use with good results without costing a fortune. Contact me offline if you want me to help you out on this

letsbuyit had the Canon digital Ixus on for £400 the other day. Good and very small camera. 2.1 m/px but only a 2x zoom.
Cheapest highstreet was around 480 although Dixons are now doing 10% off cameras over £450 and with 14 months interest free credit......tempting.
The Sony P1 looks nice too...perhaps the more suitable accessory....

I bought a digital ixus from the states (called an 'elph' over there) - it's got a 2x optical and 4x digital zoom on it...
the pic quality is amazing (choice of 1600x1200 or 640x480) and uses compact flash cards which, with a $15 adapter, become PC-card harddisks for yer laptop (the images show up as jpeg files) makes handling pictures a doddle...
...and it's small sexy size means you'll be the talk of the pub (unless someone spills snakebite & black on it)...
