Looking at booking a 10 night holiday for next summer. Got a good deal for the Al Bustan Rotana Hotel which looks fairly good.

Anyone been to Dubai as Ive only done an aiport stop before? Whats it like for eating out etc is it expensive to see the sights or fairly reasonable.

Do we need any jabs etc to go out there. Anything to look out for? I know they dont like women to be uncovered too much. Not too worried about no alchol etc.

Basically any info/tips appreciated.

Simon.

Simon

I went to Dubai last month for 6 nights, and stayed at the Hilton Dubai in Jumeriah beach. Weather and hotel where superb, but the Hilton Dubai in Jumeriah beach is very Westernised and they are not too bothered about women being too covered up. Women had to have shoulders covered when in the hotel etc and its expected when out in public. Could not have any alchol in the day as I went during ramadam (spelling ??) but no problems as have covered ramadam tents for drinks food etc for non nationals. No problems getting alchol at night in hotel or most restaurants !
You won't need any jabs and it very resonable to eat out in the local restaurants, but expensive to eat in the hotels. Trips are generally good value. Would advise to go on a desert safari, (4x4 in desert + evening meal and drinks).
You are aware that in Summer time in Dubai it will be very hot 35 degrees plus and also very high humidity !

About £499 for 10 nights in June '03 which seems to be the cheapest time. £399 for 7 nights. B&B in the aforementioned Al Bustan Rotana Hotel 5 start hotel. Superior Room. This is with Kuoni (sp?).

Only things we are pondering over at the mo is the weather as apparently it gets up to 41 C during June and is very humid. And all the stuff going in the middle east at the mo with saddam etc.

£280 for just the flight? So £499 for pretty decent accomodation for 10 nights is a good deal.

Tis on hold as a destination at the mo due to the temp hitting high 30's low 40's during june. A tad too hot for getting a tan with my english skin (even though its had several years honing in cyprus and hong kong).

I think it was called Destination Travel who are part of Kuoni. Will check when I get home.
