Died yesterday aged 50
For all those people that say Nirvana changed the face of music, they never listened to the Clash.
You're in good company up there Joe

JEEZUS H. CHRIST!
I'm so very sorry to hear that.
Joe Strummer was a huge part of the change in British (and world) music from 1975 onwards. What he and The Clash did was akin to what Presley did bringing rock'n'roll to the masses and changed music for the better, for ever. His music was a large part of my teenage years and had an enormous influence on my attitudes towards life in general.
A sad day.

GUTTED...
SHATTERED EVEN...
Lucky enough to have seen them 5 times. I really hope they don't do some kind of tribute tour now with a replacement front man - especially as Mick Jones has refused to do a reunion tour for so long during Joes life.

I'm really shocked and really sad to hear this I used to spend time chatting with Joe Strummer at the 'afters' parties at Black Grape gigs. He was a really, really nice guy and it was fantastic for me to have had the opportunity to get to know one of my all time musical heros.
My thoughts are with his wife and kids

Jones and Strummer actually played together about 5 weeks ago!!, Strummer was on stage with his band and Jones was in the audience, jumped on stage and they did some Clash stuff and some covers, the 1st time they'd played together since the 80's fueling rumours of a reunion.
Those that were there will now be looking back at that night and feel very privileged. Anyone on SN there??

Since I heard about it this morning on SN, I've been bummed about it all day. Saw a 3-4 minute tribute on Sky News which was okay but...well, you had to have been there I guess.
Give 'em hell upstairs Joe!

Oh, I only just saw this thread, posted in another.
I saw the Clash as well. My teenage years were seriously transfomed by Strummer and one or 2 other heroes. Thank bloody God! They had such an influence on me, I can honestly say I wouldn't be the person I am now without them. I know that might sound wierd I am truly gutted.
I had meant to see him in his current band

I grew up with it, I am indebted to him for what he bought to the music scene, It helped form my musical tasts and still affects them now.
The music aside, I think on a personal level, its a very sad for his family to loose him at Christmas, as its such a stark reminder of their loss. He will live on through his music, and of all the Punk stuff to come out of the late 70's, IMHO the Clash were distinctive and stood well above the others from a musical point of view. In his Genre, he was Class.

I was too young to appreciate how fantastic they were at the time. You listen to the lyrics now and you realise just how good they were and what they had to say.
I've been a bit gutted since yesterday
