Question

Survey Time - Couple of quick questions if I may:-

1) Do U Know what UK Garage is?

2) If so do you like it?

3) If not what is ya fav. music (please include age, radio 4'ers you know who you are!)

Please only continue if you answered YES to #2.

4) Who's ya fav. DJ?

5) Can you get Essex FM (96.3/102.6fm)?

6) Do you want a free mixed Garage CD?

Cheers for your input (no plug intended although if you wanna catch my show its on on Fridays and Saturdays 10pm-11pm.) :-)

I know what UK garage is. I can't stand it. You have to be off your head or a bloody good dancer to dance to it. I much prefer hard house/trance if I'm in that sort of club. Age 32. Probably too old for this type of thing, but who cares!

I wish I had a garage...

1) Yes

2) I hate it. Purely because I feel the term "garage" has been *******ised by the commercial crap Ritzy dance scene. I prefer to call it 2 step march or something like that!

3) House, Garage, rare groove etc. Listen to Norman Jay, Rampling, Jason Moore to name but a few. I'm 28 for the record. Eeeh these youngsters Gimme old school any day!

1)Yeah I know what it is.
(question, why is it called garage? Garage music in the USA (noisey punk rock kinda thing)gets the name from bands practising in the garage but UK Garage? Shouldn't it be UK Bedroom )

2) Not really, it's a bit dull to dance to, although I do listen to the Dream Dream on a Sunday as I can't be bothered to tune the radio on a Sunday Morning.

3) Drum'n'Bass/Electronica. Aphex Twin type stuff.
I'm 26 by the way

Oh and a nice double garage with electronic opening

1) Do U Know what UK Garage is?
Yep

2) If so do you like it?
No - can't stand it, it's girls music.

3) If not what is ya fav. music (please include age.
You can't beat hard house & trance for a good night out in a club (that's a proper club not something like 'Equinox'). I'm 24 btw.

Tizard,

1) Yep
2) Yep, love it
3) Dreem Team (sp?) mainly, but not really bothered!
4) Can't get Essex FM unfortunately but..
5) Yep, I'd love a free CD!!!

If it's not a daft question, how come you're giving away free CD's????

Kelvin

Ps - oh yeah, bout the CD - is there any chance you could e-mail me (kelvinpapp@hotmail.com) with further details - don't want any of this dodgy Scooby lot getting my home address - LOL

Cheers Guys,

BB, there's always one! cheers.

Jerome, you must of been off your head if you think anyone is a good dancer to Garage music! Thanks.

Jay, Totally agree about over commercializm of the scene, but its all about money, DJ Spooney charges £1500 (yes 1 thousand 500)for playing 1 hours worth of records in a club!

To be honest its happened because the general public like and buy it (admittedly not everyone) and in the area of Essex Garage is king in the bars & clubs.

..
This is partly the point of my post to get a consensus on the rest of the country and age group.
..

Mark, It's called UK Garage because "its a cross between US garage (little louie vega) and UK Drum & Bass", well thats what a well respected magazine said.

on point 2) your right, a lot of it is more for listening to in your car or round your mates than dancing to (but this is probably why so many people smoke special roll-ups whilst listing to it).

DaveU, Have to agree, a nice bit of banging house is good for the aerobics exercise, but the ladyeze are more friendly :-} with garage (as you say girls music!).

Kelvin, Check you Email box.

Also you didn't give your age?

Cool

Mark / Trev

UK garage - isn't it speed garage in a different guise?

I'd love to know the term 'garage' came about. The way I see it is that House was so called as it literally was made in the bedroom, garage was basically a derivative of house music that wanted its own identity, hence the name?

Justin

P.s. I'm running a book on the next Stevie Wonder record to be regurgetated(sp) in the name of UK Garage!

All, well I only play the stuff and can pass on what I've heard (I.e what the mags say) but I didn't realise so many people really cared what it meant, might have to dig around a bit.

One thing I don't care to get in to is the different types af Garage music (i.e. speed garage, although it is a progression) most tunes come under about 3 or 4 styles!

I have had this misfortune to experience garage. Might be great but not my cup of tea ( or JD & Coke)

Much prefer proper Industrial/Goth stuff.
NIN, Ministry, Nephilim, Sisters...
Showing my age again.

I'll get my cloak..

Um, Don't mean to be age-est but it seems that garage is a younger persons music which is borne out by the reply's and confirms my suspicions. Thanks.

Don't care much for garage

1: yes
2: No
3:Speed garage yeah, but not the commercial stuff. Underground - drum 'n bass, techno, hard house - anything with a good line to it.
Don't like MC's ruining it though.
4: Fav DJ? Don't have one in fact I would stuggle to name even one. I know the one's off the Radio1/KISS but IMO they only mix
and it isn't original to them. Any fool can mix if you practice long enough - it takes a talent to produce a track...
5: No - would I want to?
6: I have plenty of coasters courtesy of AOL. No thanks

Age 22...

1) Yes
2) no it's pants. It's another pigeon hole of dance music invented by crap mags like Mixmag (good 7 years ago) to make more more money out of youngsters. Look at Hardcore, Happy Hardcore, Speed Garage et all.
Although i do admit to gurning in the late 80's, early 90's in muddy fields!
3) Classic house, Balaeric, progressive, trance, hard house (anything but Garage )
I'm 28.

This will probably be lost in the stillness of time soon as I won't be checking it any more.

You can email me at my profile if you like.

Kelvin, If you haven't already email me at trev@masseve.co.uk with the names of the CD's I sent you and I will sort you out the track listings (Got a brain like a sieve).
