Web based e-mail
#1
Hi
Does anyone know of a web based e-mail (similar to hotmail) that would allow me to customise the from: address?
With hotmail, it defaults to username@hotmail.com - I'd like to be able to change it to:
firstname.lastname@mycompany.co.uk
Cheers,
C

GranTurismo,
Thanks but you're correct. They do insert ads :-(
Phantom_Flan_Flinger
I've not been able to get to the site all day. :-(
Kelvin,
Unfortunately this doesn't allow me to use my own domain name :-(
Keep 'em coming (please)

Me, I use Scooby Mail
I'm probably going to get it wrong but here goes...
Lee's SIDC webmail allows you to pull in emails from a variety of sources. I use it to nick 'em out my Demon account in addition to sidc.co.uk. I will be getting it to pull 'em out of our Exchange Server in our office too. Therefore, you can set up (for a small cost ) an ISP hosting "me@whateverismydomainname.com" for people to send you emails. Using SIDC webmail, you can pull those emails out.
Not the full answer, BUT here is the (I think possibly) the money shot.
Using Outlook or similar, you can pull all SIDC webmail emails into it. In Outlook, you can set up your profile to have the "from" address whosoeveryouwantittobe. Therefore solution resolved...
This bums out if you want to cruise the world & use Internet Cafes...
However, Lee (God ) may have a further solution...

As far as I can see there are 3 main requirements here
a) web-based solution
b) email address to be of the format name@mycompany.com NOT name@hotmail.com
c) no ads.
so Whizzer..you are wrong "my" webmail does indeed satisfy all these requirements. Plus, as puff points out, it can pull in email from any email pop box. You can set your reply address to whatever you want.
It costs me a small island to have my servers in Telehouse so I can't offer it for free. But through the SIDC you can have it for a fiver a year. Can't say fairer than that.

Lee,
What about non-SIDC members? i.e. I'm only a scoobynet member :-(
I take it you would issue an email address that I could point my domain to and then your web bit would allow me to change from from: address?

Hiya
if you have a scooby then why not join the SIDC ? Not much of an argument against joining since most dealers offer 10% discount, so you'll save the joining fee on a good service.
The way it works is this :
you have a logon to the sidc webmail page purely by having an sidc email account. From there you can configure your account to pickup email from any other account, and yes you can change the replyto value.
cheers
Lee.

Tell u what - we'll do it for non SIDC members at £25 per year and throw in a years subscription to the SIDC you don't need to have a scooby..just an interest in them which is why you are here after all..

All,
I'm pleased to say that Lee has indeed been able to'sort me out' in this respect and the sidc webmail seems to work well.
The cheque is in the post (ahem!)
As an aside, it might be worth other people considering this as a solution. As more and more epople go the way of 'always on' connections it makes sense for mobile people to store their mail folder on the web rather than on a particular machine.
