Orange SPV or Nokia 7650
#2
I`ve got the 7650, A very easy to use phone, the camera takes some very good photos, and is surprisingly good in the dark. You`ll need to use either `infra red` or `bluetooth` to connect to a pc, as the phone does`nt support data cables.
One little niggle is that the ringtones are`nt very loud, even on outdoor full volume.
I paid £70 for the phone on a £15/month contract and can recommend it as a good fun accessory and a really good phone.
Don`t know about the orange SPV, hope this helps

Played with both, own an SPV.
Basically the 7650 takes better pictures, but the SPV has better other functionality, USB connectivity, expandable memory, mp3 playing, movies (if thats your bag) etc etc.
If you are mainly going to be using it for piccies buy the 7650, personally I'd have gone for the SPV even without a camera as the other bits are more use to me!

Don't do Windows if I can help it so went for the 7650
Never tried the SPV, but I certainly recommend the 7650 if you can live with the size (I used a 8310 before).
Only thing I'm not happy about is that it doesn't support the bluetooth audio profile and so you cant use a bluetooth headset or car handsfree.

How are you finding the phone?? Im used to Nokia functions so can you do menu shortcuts i.e. press menu then 2,3 for txt messaging?
Also, how easy is it to use the phone? I had a quick play in the Orange shop and it seemed pretty complicated!! Is it easy to go through menus, take pics, listen to music, download things etc etc & do you know of any websites where software, pics can be downloaded?
I know that on the 7650 i can just download from the web onto my PC then transfer it across to the phone.

When the phone is on its cradle, you can actually browse the phone like a hard drive and drag 'n' drop files onto the internal SD memory card. The phone comes with an 8meg card, but I've upgraded to a 64 meg one.
The phone DOES suffer from major pauses sometimes, and has crashed on me a couple of times, leaving me with no option other than to take the battery off to reset it.
One good thing is that you can drop WAVS into the sounds folder on the phone and use them as a ringtone. At the moment I have "Jingle Bell Rock" as mine, and it sounds excellent in the office when it rings
Videos can be dropped into the phone too, but they need to be a pretty low bitrate and in WMV format before they play to an acceptable level without major pausing.
MP3's can be dropped in too, and the phone will play them via the media player and the sound quality is as good as the bitrate they're coded with.
As far as shortcuts, yes, you can use number keys to get to a particular menu command without having to scroll down the list.
Also, web-browsing is OK - leaves WAP to shame (which wasn't hard)
The photos aren't as instantly available as the 7650, as you have to begin composing a multimedia message to take one, but the quality is fair.
The accessories you get with the phone leave the Nokias to shame - you get a leather case, a recharger, a cradle to sync with the pc, a camera, headphones / handsfree kit and a copy of Outlook 2000.
I like mine, and I userstand a firmware / software upgrade will be sometime after Xmas.
I wonder if this will stop the hanging....... although it IS a Microsoft product so its to be expected

I gave my SPV back within the 14 day's
the phone locked up on me when I tried dialing a number
the battery life is very poor I was getting 26hrs on average with very little call's made in that time.
If it did what it said on the tin it would be great. I'll give it a year for the techy stuff to get better. 3G ?

Orange are also giving unlimited GPRS use at the moment £6 a month. Unlimited web surfing, effectively.
Mine has paused a couple of times, but has not yet hung. I have also had Nokias for the past 10 years+ and have found the SPV quite easy to get used to.
My battery life was poor to start with but seems to be getting better with time. It now goes over 2 days and thats with a fair bit of use.
I was going wait for 3G, but think it will be a year before its worth having. And I shudder to think what some of the features are going to cost to use, as the phone companies all paid about 20 times too much for their licenses.

I believe these are preferential rates/prices if you are one of the first 20000 to register.

Drag and drop the files using Windows explorer whilst the phone is on the cradle.
For videos, use the Windows Media Encoder (downloadable from the microsoft site) to convert videos to wmv format and to have a sample rate of about 128kbits/sec.
For ringtones, drop WAV files into the My Computer-->Mobile Device-->My Smartphone-->IPSM-->Application Data-->Sounds folder and you'll be able to select them from the ringtone list.
I have a few videos I can send and some Christmassy ringtones I've resampled if you want me to send you any?

sorry for delay in answering
YES to the speaker phone
YES to the pictures
Just got myself a Bluetooth USB Dongle "BTD-2403" to connect to PC. Paid £25 from E-bay. Also available are USB infra-red ports £50 means I can play about with the wifes 8310 as well with no wires.
