Can someone please tell me what on earth is going on here.....

Bliar says that the country cannot afford the pension to earnings link.

Alistair Darling says that they plan to do "much, much more" than restore the link.

If Bliar says that the country can't afford it, then what is Darling on about??

Bliar is now saying that he plans to ignore the recent pension vote defeat. What's the point of a vote, if the leadership can simply ignore it anyway?
