How much should I be paying my cleaner?

I have a 2-bed flat - fairly large but I'm not there that often. She has just asked for a pay-rise from £10 a week to £12 a week. She reckons it takes here 1.5 hours. Oh yeah, and I'm in North Hampshire

Tell her that as a responsible employer, you don't want to impact the rate of inflation and therefore will only consider a cost-of-living increase in line with the current headline inflation rate. That would put her on about £10.40 a week.

£12 per hour is cheap, if she's good.
I assume there's no agency taking a cut out of that? If there was, it would probably be about £5 to £10 per hour more expensive.

How many hours or days is your cleaner there? Also is the work good?

If you just give it to her straight, she'll try it again in a few months time & before you know it she'll get paid more than you earn! 
Suggest you both sit down and agree to a rise in line with modernisation of her services.

Give her £12. If you don't, just imagine what she could get up to when your not there.

I was only asking 'cos:
a) a 2quid payrise for totty is justified, whereas for a munter it is not.
