Taken from the BBC website:
One of Britain's most famous speed cameras is likely to be out of action until next week after being knocked over by a driver, police have said .
The camera on the southbound carriageway of the M11 at Woodford, Essex, stopped working on Tuesday.
The camera has been trapping up to 2,000 motorists a day and has featured in campaigns about speed cameras run by national newspapers.
Officers found tyre tracks leading away from the camera and believe that someone deliberately reversed into it with a lorry.
Damage discovered
On Friday an Essex Police spokesman said: "The camera will probably be up and running again next week.
"It has been out of action since Tuesday when the damage was discovered.
"The pole and the camera casing were damaged, although the camera itself was not.
'Save lives'
"We suspect it could have been done deliberately."
He added: "Speed cameras are there for one thing and that is to save lives.
"Perhaps if the person who did this could see some of the effects of speeding that we see in hospitals and mortuaries they would think differently about what they have done."

Let's have a big "awwwwwwwwwwwww" for the police. Aww didumms, not getting any revenue from the motorist for a few days, how sad.
I assume of course that this camera was in an 'accident blackspot'?
Maybe the M11 is considered a built up area? hmm.
Anyone detect and sarcasm from me?

Double that.... the fine is £60
Also, what about the ones that are too fast to qualify for a fixed penalty, and end up getting referred to court.
Big money there.

I used to drive past this camera every day for 10months. It is actually a sensible place to put one IMHO, because there is a 3->2 lane merge on a busy motorway. And I have also seen plenty of near accidents, as people try and merge, or prevent people from merging, or decide at the last minute to go on the A406 (I think, slip road on the right about 1/2mile before)
However, its right after the start of a 50 limit, and I think the whole setup could be made safer. But if done, revenue would, I think, go down, so to me the way it's currently implemented is wrong.
