#1
We get a yearly bonus which is (hopefully) due to be paid out in March but we get nowt at Christmas time.
Is the traditional Christmas bonus a thing of the past ?

I've heard rumours of mythical things, but have never seen one.
The company I work for hasn't actually paid bonuses for the past two years apparently. I wouldn't know as I'm not on the scheme, but I'm not missing much - anything, in fact

Heh heh. Being a contractor, I get a bonus once a month.
Having said that, my bonus this year is that as of Jan 1st, I won't be working in this sh1thole any more.

Got one the first year I worked here along with a tax free Y2K bonus. Xmas bonus was about a grand after tax I believe. Damn that was a good xmas. New wega tv, dvd, stereo amp, pc etc. Last year no Xmas bonus but got my yearly bonus at Xmas (or one quarter of it) so ok. This year Im hoping the same but wont find out until payday on the 19th!
Not bad for a company thats under chapter 11 (touch wood).

Phil - yes sorry meant tax paid. Company gave us x amount per night (Y2k bonus Im talking about now) which was a take home figure so they paid all the tax and NI on it. Not bad seeing as I wasnt supposed to be working and pencilled myself in on the rota for 4 nights

Well no as we got a meagre £500 per night tax free whilst a lot of other people got £1000ish. Not that Im complaining as it turns it was money for doing nothing and I didnt even work on New Years Eve.

yes - we get one every year - usually a percentage of of our annual salary.
For the milleniuum year we got 10%
This years a bit more normal, we get 5%, had 6's 7's occasionally back in the late eighties
Our bonus reflects how well the company has done throughout the years trading. We always used to get it tax free too as Profit Sharing, but the chancellor stoppped profit sharing pay a couple of years ago, as apparently unscrupulous companies paid their workers minimum wage, and the the rest of their wages as profit related pay, so they paid minimal tax.. However they fcucked it up for everyone else
As you can imagine it's very well recieved!

Nope! But then I do work in Local Govt
We do however get Friday after Christmas off as a goodwill gesture....but then that is my only day off (appart from Christmas Day/Boxing Day) as someone has to stay and cover the phones....

Ahh... Y2K. Being a computer contractor I think there ought to be one every year. I worked from 2-10 on dec 31st, then went upstairs to drink free champagne and eat free food at the company party, then out on the balcony to watch the London fireworks (office right on the embankment). Put up in the Savoy for the night, back to work at 7a.m. till 6 p.m. At this point nothing at all had gone wrong so they said go home for the rest of the weekend (could have stayed at the Savoy, but it's a dump). Got paid for 4 days and it was 5 figures (before tax, but I didn't pay a lot of that then)!!!!!

Next major payday won't kick in until 2038 though.

I got one last year, however I think the chances of getting one this year are very slim, company fcked - although no doubt the directors will pay themselves something extra , w4nkers.

Christmas bonus??????????
Bonus?????
"you still have a job don't you", is that a xmas bonus?
We have an EBITDA target for end of this financial year. Bonus payable in June, but only to those that contributed?
Introduction of an enforced churn policy? (people) Is that a xmas bonus?
Seeing work colleges thrown out onto the street on the 24th December.... is that a xmas bonus?
Is the whole IT industry like this?
Choose a life, don't choose IT

More and more companies here are moving to a Cost To Company approach - ie. a flat amount inclusive of EVERYTHING. If you pay more tax each month during the year you can then arrange for a tax free "bonus" at the end. It's still part of your package though...
