Thinking of getting a Toshiba 36ZP18P , Anyone got any advice on similar Tv's , problems with this model, and is it reasonably future - proof?
I have a DTS Set up in my room, this is for the old man downstairs. Can't be bothered with seperate amp etc... so the 5.1 (not DTS) built in seems reasonable enough
Any advice apprecaited.

We have the same set in the lounge. Was initially concerned given the screen size that it may be a little intrusive, but it fits snugly in the corner.
Its a great TV IMO, when I was looking around the geeks were panning it. But having taken that into account I still bought one and am happy with it
Heres a start point,if the link works. AV Forums
Probably give you informed advice also Plantie

I bought a 32" Toshiba about 5 years ago with the 5.1 decoder built in, excellent TV and does everything I want. The only problem is that it is too good, with all these flat screen and plasma tv's around I'd quite like a change but mine's still going strong.
On where to buy one, have you considered John Lewis. When I bought mine I got a five year warranty, free delivery and they price match. Initially paid £1800 and then spent a day searching for sale/reduced prices. Found the same TV for £1200 in the back of a WhatTV type mag. John Lewis refunded the difference without any problems, so highly recommended.

i have that TV- its superb, got it from PRC direct (online) would shoot myself before buying from comet/dixons etc.
and its on the MBNA at 0% so thats cool to!
back to the TV- it fits in the corner of the room better than the old 28 inch set, picture is perfect sound is perfect- perfect TV really.
sound is fine- if anyone thinks you need a seperate amp with this TV then you are a TV geek and should go play with your super thick £10 per meter surround sound wire!
T
ps- its heavy, you WILL NOT be able to lift it on the stand alone so make sure its set up on delivery or have a mate on hand.

I have the Panasonic Tau TX36 (or something like that). Superb TV which was bought from empiredirect for £350 less than Currys.
Highly recommended if you want an alternative to the Tosh.

Get it !, I have the 32" and it's superb, also my brother in law is customer service manager for Toshiba (been there for nearly 20years) so he knows his stuff, these tv's are ultra reliable and very few are called in for repair, my previous set was also a Tosh and I had it for 12 years with NO problems. Can't praise them enough.
Toshiba can't make enough of them ! get one where ever you can get it cheapest, as they are unlikely to go into sale because of supply problems, as for future proofing, they come with loads of outputs/inputs, but with the electronics market nothing stays still, pair it with a good DVD and maybe some bigger speakers and you have the dogs doo daas of a system. Honest !

Ok the TV looks great...
But I have a Denon sound setup at home... so dont need any fancy sound option.... Is there a TV out there I can buy that is similar without the fancy sound options which obviously increase the price..
In a perfect world I would just like a Big Widescreen TV screen/no speakers for less money!
Any advice?

I have the Tosh 32ZD26. Absolute stunner, £1299 in Comet and £859 with free delivery from av direct. I also have the Yahama HTTR5540 amp and nsx220 speakers. Very good sound and decoding options. 5*65w plus 50w sub. Only paid £320 for the set.
