this from bbc
Firefighters have called off the eight-day strike which was due to begin on Wednesday following an afternoon of talks at Fire Brigades Union (FBU) headquarters.
The union and employers are now expected to return to the negotiating table, although there is still a wide gulf between them.

I doubt it very much - our brave firemen have had the fear of god put up them by this GREAT government
Hooooray for democracy - £21k IS fair, you WILL modernise or you WILL NOT get more than 4%!!
They have gone to ACAS to try and find a way out WITHOUT losing face - if I was in charge (maybe its a good job I'm not!! ) BUT I would make it a condition of any deal that they sign a No-Strike contract. They are on the run and the public should make the most of the advantage and get a decent return for an excessive £21000 a year for a part-time job
However, I hope they have a good xmas - really I do!!
