Has anyone ever used Car Data to sell their car?
#1
I am currently trying to sell my car. After having placed an advert in the Auto Trader and have been phoned by car data saying that they have buyers for my car in my area.
All I have to do is pay £79.99 to have car cars details passed on to them. They will continue to do this until the car is sold. As they also sell finace they will offer this to the car buyer for them to buy my car. If the punter goes for their finace I get £60 back.
Has anyone had any success with them?

Absolutley dont use these people at all. They are liars, and you can quote me on that.
A couple of years ago, my wife was selling her 106 in Autotrader. Got a cold call and conned into spend £60 quid on the basis that the Car Data people were saying "we have people waiting to buy a car like yours".
Their definition of like means:
1. The same manufacturer
2. The same type e.g. Focus, 106, Impreza etc
3. Same fuel type
4. Same transmission type
Therefore, these people waiting on these lists they supposedly have could search on diesel, manual transmission, peugeot and get a 406, 206, 306 and maybe a 106.
Also when the search results come back, there is no order to the list other than the date it was entered on their database. So if you do want a particular make, model and specification of car you might be very very very very lucky that your car gets found.
Just for the record, the wife wrote a real good letter of complaint and got all her money back after they admitted everyting I've said was true.
Mis-selling wunch of bankers!

I had one saying that they had 5 buyers looking for a Corrado VR6 just like mine within 6 miles!
1stly - they don't know where I live so how can they tell? (but I'll let that one slip as....
2ndly - where I live (out in the sticks) there is about a miniscule chance that there are 5 other people looking for ANY type of car, let alone a CorradoVR6! 3 small villages within 6 miles of me etc. I told them this and they never rang again.

There is another option.
When they phone, say you'll pay them £100 or £150 on completion of a sale from a buyer presented to you by them. They'll not be interested, ask to speak to the manager stating the poor business sense (they'll normally only get £80, but you're offering much more).
