Recommendations for AV Amp & Speakers?
#1
I've just bought a Pioneer 454 DVD player and whilst the sound quality through my prologic TV is pretty good I want to get an amp and surround speakers to match.
Haven't got much cash to throw at this so is there anything reasonable out there for - say - £400?
Cheers,
Gareth

A guy I work with is selling a Mission NXT surround set if you're interested. Includes a sub.
People seem to like Denon A/V amps.
Bought my g/f a 454 for xmas - hope you're happy with yours

Had a look at richersounds.com last night and looks like I could get sorted with a DD/DTS amp and speakers for around £350 - just got to sneak them into the house now without the better half noticing...
James - I'm very happy with the 454. £140 from amazon seems fair enough...
Thanks all,
Gareth

the NAD t761 seems to be worth listening to - handles home theatre and CD's well - so it claims; most amps seem to do one or other, but not both

also seems reasonably future proofed.

For that kind of money, you could be looking at an OK AV amp. and speakers, something like the Eltax packages. Don't forget your cables as well which do add up.
Suggest something like the Eltax Hollywood 5.0 speakers for around £110 and maybe a Yamaha DSPAX620 for around £200 (does DD 5.1 and DTS), then add your cables.
Cheers

Can highly recommend the Yamaha DSPAX620 as I bought one a couple of months ago and it sounds My speakers are the next things to be ugraded so I'll have to see what the general recommendation is for those.

I can recommend Denon AV amps. My last 2 choice was between the AVR1802 (which i bought) and a Yamaha. The Denon was a little crisper on the treble.
I have it matched with Mordaunt Short fronts/centre and Boston Accoustics rears.
You really have to listen to the setup before you buy. I was convinced i wanted Missions before i heard the MS's.
And dont underestimate the price of decent cables !! They are important.
Oops also forgot, good stands are a must for your fronts if you are not using a sub.
