I'm off to the hospital for urodynaics tests in a months time and I'm a bit scared.

They say they will be inserting a plastic tube into my bladder and then fill it with water to test pressure etc. What anaesthetics am I to expect? If my urether was designed to have tubes up it, it would have been made bigger. I'm cringing just thinking about it.

Dont go worrying about it for the next month, youll make yourself worse.

Dont know anything about the test, but Im sure they know what they are doing, and they will have done it before "day in day out".

Just chill and try to put it to the back of your mind untill its time to attend.

"Easy for you to say" I hear you cry, well my advise is free and can be taken or disscarded its up to you.

Ta. Am trying to stop worrying. Will have Mummy Dearest there to hold my hand anyway.

One thing I am grateful of is that womens urethers are much shorter than mens. Sometimes I praise god that I am female.

Apparently (wifes a nurse who does this sort of stuff :uurrggghh!! It isn't too unpleasent and generally only men get pissing pain for more than 24 hours afterwards. My nephew (11 year old) had a capacity test done last week (they fill the bladder until he can't hold on any more and has to release it) and then went straight to school afterwards, so it can't be much to worry about.

No anasthetics used but it's not supposed to hurt. They do all sorts of tests which include filling it up and emptying it several times.....

Couldn't they just give you ten pints of Stella instead?

My g/f had something similar to this. It didn't hurt, apparently.

However, make sure you follow the doctors advice. They told my g/f afterwards that she could go home after she'd successfully had a pee, being the impatient type, she said she'd had one and they let her go. She was back in hospital a few hours later as although her bladder was full she couldn't pass any water and was in a bad way and had to have a small procedure. This would have been avoided if she'd listened to the doctor properly.

It Dependson which process is used.

1. If they use the electro pulse discharge method.. ie, they fill the bladder up and then insert a thin long probe. They they pass small electrical shocks to Pulse the bladder walls. This can be a little painfull.

Watch out for a sudden urine discharge a few hours later ..Some time including blood. Can be a bit embarassing in public. As you have no control. Also your ********* can swell up and prove painfull for a few days.

Oooh, shopping. I'm looking forward to it now.

I have to go loo every 20-30 mins now anyway, so parents are used to having to stop at service stations etc!

Glad to know that it won't be TOO painful. Thanks.
