Just heard a newsclip on Classic FM.... this guy has got so p*$$*d off with the noise made by Lorries going over the speedbump outside his house, that he's dug it up with a JCB. Class!!!

Not only that, the conversation with the Council Official was just like the Hitchhiker's Guide (TV version)... even down to the fact that the official, like Mr Prosser, was Welsh.
Yessss!!

I loved the bit where he told the council official he was heading for a smack in the mouth! LOL, I'd have helped him pay any fine!

Fair play to him....He's only doing what the majority of us would like to do.

Was on the Southern TV news as well. Good use of a JCB.

I'm going to hire a JCB tomorrow - I've got some work to do

Jen,

Do you ever mention the emmissions problems they also create? Do you guys have any data on noise and emmissions problems caused by speed bumps?

Ta,

Matt

Jen, whilst you're up, how would I go about getting some double yellows painted at the end of our street and accross an access fingmy?

Good on the guy with the JCB

Matt - yeah, we do mention the emmissions, although IIRC they don't produce a significant increase in emissions, more so at things like traffic lights etc...the transport guidance notes on hte DfT website should provide more info. I'll look 'em up at lunchtime

Bob - it'll be the Traffic Mgmt dept. of your local Borough Council who you need to contact. if it's across an entrance a white bar marking is probably all that's needed which can be put down pretty easily (subject to someone's approval), waiting restrictions however are a nightmare and acutally cost several thousand pounds to implement (they have to be made legal) as well as several months as police, fire etc. need to be consulted and there needs to be a period of public consultation (21 days)....however, if you can prove it's needed as a safety measure e.g. for access of fire/amulance etc. it can go through as a priorty... Worth a try anyway!

Hmmm... how about a national campaign; honk loudly every time you encounter "traffic calming". (It's easier on the car than astraboy's suggestion )

About time we started throwing our weight around; sick to death of the anti-car lobby ruling the roost!
