Look at http://www.adslguide.org for info.
I use Pipex and am very happy with it now altho I had a few connectivity issues at first.
Plenty of good ones to choose from so look about.

Highly recommend ADSL on Plusnet or Nildram (512kbps) for 22.99 per month. We're with Plusnet and get 250Mb web space, static IP address and our own domain name (username.plus.com). Haven't had any problems with them and connection is consistently fast. As said above, check out www.adslguide.org.uk for comparisons between the various ISPs. Steer clear of BT as they charge a lot more for a lot less, IMHO...

Another recommendation for 1 meg Blueyonder. At 30 quid a month it's a bit more expensive than the rest but well worth it. Very fast permanent connection and a free 24hr helpline with knowledgable staff should you need them.

don't mean to put a dampner on things RB but can you get it where you are? Probably can on BT but are you in a Telewest or NTL area? My understanding with the cable companies is that it is either one or the other, except if it is neither of them
Stand to be corrected of course

There are 2 options with broadband ADSL or a cable modem. Cable modems are supplied by NTL or Telewest, and you won't have a choice of both.
ADSL is supplied by BT, either through their own retail outlet, or their ISP Openworld, or other ISPs.
There are advntages to not signing on with BT, mainly to do with bandwidth, for their own users BT have limited it.
If you need a BT sourced ADSL I'd just look for the best deal. I am with AOL, costs £27.99 a month or £34.99 a month. The later gives you unlimited dial up access using an 0800 number as well. Useful on the few occasions ADSL goes down, but more useful if you regularly sign on away from home. AOL also is excellent for new users, due to the ease of use, and for its parental controls. Has a freephone helpline to. Its not good for experienced users!

If you have a Telewest or NTL (cable) then I would go with them as they offer higher speed for same money as ADSL
If not, as in my case , then it's all down to the cost of activation, instalation, modem/router, month charges.
So for example as I already have an ADSL router (modem) I've got a deal from freeserve for a free activation. Also keep in mind that it is self instalation.
If you don't have a modem/router there is always an option to get it from the ISP (a broadband modem connection pack), normaly it's around £100.00 per modem PLUS you need the micro filters for each phone pluged into the phone socket.
I would go for either Pipex,BTOpenWorld, Freeserve or PlusNet.
I hate AOL so no link to them (messed up my comp BIG time)
PS Always check on availability in you area - on each website
hope this helped
