People think that modifications on their cars make the car worth more?
Say for example person A says they have added 4k's worth of modifications and then expect to get that 4k's worth of modifications money back come sell time?
Then (theoretically ) i offer advice saying that you wont make money on that but you will make money on this this and this as shoving a chip in and running the car at 20psi isnt a good way of doing anything
But are there actually that many people out there who think that because you added air con at 1k your going to get exactly that 1k back? or if you added alloys that your going to get all the money back from that? and then some to55er sends you abusive emails because of that
To be honest i cant really be ar5ed with that sort of person, i suppose this is what happens when you let the most muppet of muppets loose from the loony bin
Rant off

I agree with what you are saying Tony. Despite what people (not naming any names) think, if you spend money on your car in extras (modifications) you are never going to get you money back.

I remember one magazine saying that if you modify your car it makes the value less than that of an un-modifed model. Don't know if that is true.

I agree : a modified car lasts less therefore it depreciates faster.

yeah, I'll agree with what's been said here.
I know that the 000's I've spent on my car won't be worth much, it will just sell my car quicker to those that want a modded car & not at all to those that want to start from scratch, or possibily don't want to mod

I will be selling/partex mine shortly, after xmas now, MY95 with huage mileage with over 5k spent on it in under 2 years, I will expect to get 5-6k?? I think that's being realistic, do you ?

It really depends on the 'modifications'. For example a PPP will add value to the car, whilst a ECUTEK/Link won't add as much if any. Brake and tasteful wheel upgrades tend to help to add value, whereas bodykits and morrettes don't.

If we're talking scoobs then as a general rule any Subaru or Prodrive mod will have a positive effect on trade in prices.

A tuned car will kepp some people away - I will only buy standard cars, then tune them myself if I want to. Would never really consider a modded car due to insurance.

My car had a couple of mods when i bought it (exhaust, racing induction kit and gold Speedline Alloys) I wasn't put off the car because of it. Saved me doing it myself however, if it had anything else done, I would have thought twice. Too modded means more things to go wrong and loads more expense!!
