Contact Lenses - Spec Savers
For the past 18 months I have been using Daysoft lenses that I order online. I heard great reviews about them and a few people on here also gave them the thumbs up. Took the plunge and I never looked back. I never had a bad pair and they always arrived in 2 days after I ordered them.
Last month I was due a contact lense check up and I had a feeling that my prescription had changed anyway. When I mentioned that I wore daysoft, the optician sucked air through his teeth and in a round about way, called me a numpty for using them.
He said that they were known for changing material without notifying the customer and that they were not good for my eyes.
I felt like walking out at that point but decided to give him the benifit of the doubt and listen to what he had to say.
After he checked my eyes, he agreed that my prescription had changed for -1.75 to -2.25 in each eye, not bad after 10 years! He also noted that I had a faint red ring around my iris which he said was most likely caused by the daysofts.
Anyways, I was given some trial lenses from their own supply to try out. I was impressed. They fitted really well and lasted a full 12 hours where my old daysofts would start to dry out after 9-10 hours. So, the following week, I signed up as it was only another £6 a month than what I was paying to daysoft and I felt it wasn't worth the risk in carrying on with a company that I knew nothing about. Especially after getting a good telling off!
Now, I have been wearing my new lenses for two weeks and they are absolutely ****e! They always feel uncomfortable and I feel like I need to take them out by lunch time.
Not happy and I feel like they gave me the premium lenses to try just to get me to sign up for the basic variants. Can they do this?
Also, they said that as a monthly contact lense customer, I would get a discount on their glasses. Once I signed up I asked what the discount was. '50% off sir.' Wow, I thought. So if it is buy one get one free and I get 50% off that...... 'No sir, you can't use the two offers together.' So hang on, what is the saving if I want to buy two pairs of glasses? 'Erm.....it's the same price sir!
So overall I am not impressed with specsavers. I feel like they have lied to me from the start, using scare tactics to convince me to buy from them as well offering discounts that don't exist.
I'm going back this week to cancel and going back to daysofts.
Anyone else had a similar problem with specsavers?

I've had a very similar experience to you. I've been using Daysoft for many years now, with no problems. Like you, they all arrive in 2 days and all been fine.
I also go to Specsavers for eye tests and health checks (every 2 years) and EVERY time the optician tells me how much he disapproves of Daysoft. This year they changed the material to a more comfortable 'silk' which are just as comfortable to me, but my optician immediately said, "There's been loads of problems with these!"
I've tried going to another optician, but after paying for an eye test and lens check, they told me they can't issue prescriptions for lenses they don't supply!!!
They've just put up the Daysoft prices by a quid a box due to the closure of the VAT loophole, but they're still the cheapest around.
I just think Specsavers are aware they are being undercut and possibly resort to underhand tactics to get you to buy from them (IMHO).

Then the new breed of fully permeable lenses appeared and I have never looked back. They are incredible. Put them in on the 1st day of the month, and leave them in, take them out on last day of month and repeat.
Trust me... after a few days you will forget you actually wear contacts. So much so, I once wore mine almost three months and only remembered when I started seeing headlights a bit blurred when driving at night... I guess they were wearing thin. LOL
I reckon that you can get two months wear out of every pair easy, so I wear mine for 6 weeks, so every 12 weeks I "Win" a pair, which is handy in case I ever lose any.

Everyones different though I guess, if you work in a smokey or gritty environment maybe they wear out faster.

I've been using Specsavers for years for monthly disposable lenses, until yesterday when I cancelled then after having laser eye surgery in the morning, should have done it years ago
To be fair to Specsavers I never had any problems with their lenses or service but I know others haven't been as lucky.
