Question

I only have 2 SCART inputs on the back of my TV.

I don't have an arial on the house, just Sky. I have a DVD Player, Video and Satallite.

I would have thought I could get away with only using 2 SCART leads but just cannot work it out

plug the satellite into the back of the video, then the video into the TV, this way you can video off satellite, and you only use 1 inputs on the tv, leaving the other for the DVD

You can get 2-1 or 3-1 scart adaptors. You do loose a little in quality though.

There is probably a high-quality switching one out there somewhere.

Davyboy,

ajm's suggestion is the way I have mine hooked-up. Works a treat. Does your TV have any other inputs? composite? S-video?

ajm is right!

Sky goes into the AV1 (as a guess) slot at the back of the video.
Video goes into the TV.
DVD goes into the other SCART socket at the back of the TV.

To record from Sky, you have to set the channel on the video to AV1.

*IF* you have a multi-region DVD player and *IF* only one of the SCART sockets is NTSC/60Hz compatible, then plug your DVD player into the right SCART socket. You'll know you have it round the wrong way if you get NTSC DVDs playing in black and white.

If you have a games console as well, then you are probably best getting a SCART switch box. They can range from £20 for a manual one to lots of cash for a remote controlled one!!!

What you would then do, is plug the switch box into the socket that the DVD player is on, and plug the DVD player and the games console into the switchbox.

If you get lost, drop me a mail!

In the midst of typing you've replied!

Check the SCART cables, the cheap one (supplied with the equipment) can break quite easily! Might be worth investing in some decent cables, especially for the DVD player.

I've had similar issues before, and it turned out that the problem was with the connections on the video!! Good Sky picture plugged directly to the telly, but poor when via the video!

Buy a Denon 3802

Not a cheap solution though.

I miss my 42" rear projection telly! (No room in the new house!)

5 SCART sockets & 3 S-video, all of which were NTSC/60Hz/RGB compatible!

Check your cables are good quality.

The DVD probably has a switchable output format, usally something like "Video" or "RGB". Switch to RGB, buy a good quality RGB SCART cable and plug into the first SCART socket on the TV, then switch the TV to RGB (same button as for switching to AV1 etc.)

Picture quality from DVD improves no end this way.

As for video/Sky, just use the best cables you can. If they can do RGB as well, all the better, but daisy them Sky box -> Video -> TV SCART 2.

Cheers

My 2-penny assuming Scart 1 can do RGB,

Sky Scart 1 into DVD Scart 2. DVD Scart 1 into TV Scart 1

Set both Sky and DVD to RGB for best picture. DVD should "pass through" sky picture when its turned off.

Video Scart 1 into TV Scart 2. Probably composite (assuming you dont have S-Video capabable Video)

Sky Scart 2 into Video Scart 2 for recording from Sky.
