I want to return to NZ for a holiday, but want to tour on a motorbike. However, this time I want to see if it is worth buying a bike when I get there (or before if possible) and selling it when I leave. I will also need bike insurance.

Does anyone know how much insurance will cost for the 6 weeks I hope to go for? Are there any websites there for motorbikes (I couldn’t find any).

I just want to go wherever the mood takes me, and make no plans except for arrival & departure dates (hopefully in Jan or Feb 03).

Any help out there? Thanks

I can give you some tips on where to go but can't help with the bike question except to say it'd probably be cheaper, easier, less hassle etc. to hire a bike. Must be some bike hire/sale website in NZ that could give you better info on prices etc.

Rented a bike last time I was there, and it cost me about £900 for 5 weeks, and I covered about 8,000 kms on it.

Thought about buying a second hand bike, using it for the 6 or so weeks I want to go there for, then selling it before i return home. If i buy well, I may even make a profit on the sale. Rentals are all well & good, but they all appear to be BMW's Harleys, Trial Bike sort of stuff. I don't mind what I use really, as the roads are fantastic, and any bike would be great.

Will try the altervista site, and will also try my own insurance company here for advice.

Thanks

Cool

Could always try www.clubsub.org.nz, and post in there forum. Not sure of their responses but they all have scoobys.
