I got flashed by a speed camera a few days ago and I have just recieved a notice from the police this morning asking me to confrim that I was the driver of my car caught doing a whopping 47mph in a 40mph zone. This was on a long straight run of duel carriageway which goes on for miles. How pissed off am I?

It even came along with a nice condecending letter giving very useful information about how useful camera's are in reducing traffic accidents and contrary to belief they aren't just revenue earners blah blah blah. What a crock of s**t.

I am on that road nearly every day and it was jsut a lapse of concentration that I went slightly over the limit. I am usually very cautious as there are about 4 camera's on this 1 mile stretch of road but in no way could it be called an accident black spot.

I am getting sick to the back teeth with the general attitude towards motorists that seems to be prevailant in the upper echelons of this country what with the rising cost of petrol, insurance, bloody speed camera's I reckon people won't be able to drive at all in a few years.

Just had to get that off my chest.

I thought the procecution for speeding had a tolerance of 10% + 3 MPH in this case 47 MPH seems very borderline and unfair to me.

i've just bought a Snooper, if they want to scan me with radar i want to know about it!!

Cheers

It's still not to many days past Guy Fawkes night. I wonder if some speed camera's might "accidently" meet with an untimely end from some fireworks gone astray.

10% + 2

I would personally request a copy of the photo generated from the camera.

...also ask when it was last calibrated. Or does that only work on hand-helds?

I'm not saying this will work but

what would happen if you found out what car the senior police man of that area drove, then hired a very very similar car, then spend a few quid in halfords getting a set of plates made up that just happened to be the same as the above senior police man's car & you then spend several happy hours driving pass all the local speed careras just fast enough to make the flash you whilst you duck down in the seat so you cant be seen ??

just a thought

I heard police in East Anglia are now looking for a man who took a gun to a local speed camera.

I hope to witness this chap, so I would be able to report him. Therefore, may I request he keeps shooting as many cameras as possible, preferably in the Kent area, to maximise the chance that I catch him at it

We have exactly the same problem here - the prime trapping spots are those that are safe to do higher speeds, not the more dangerous areas. Then we're told that the traps are to reduce road fatalities, not increase revenue. Sure...

from what i read the gun shots just dented the case of the speed camera! the tyre trick or foam seem to be the only workable solutions but i suspect if caught you would get a long prison sentance the government always gets touchy about tax evasion! only exceptions to these tolls machines is police cars and government ministers.
