Well over the limit and smashing your car and a stationary one?

The guy in question is the husband of someone my sister works with.

Edited to say first offence.

Cheers

David

did similar thing in my teens (lots of people drink drive by getting in their car the morning after) and back then i got 12 months ban and careless driving etc, but now its more what the insurance companies will hammer you with when your back on the road. to be honest i think it takes getting done for drink driving to make you stop doing it, also stays on licence for 12 years. and ive had a clean licence for a lot of years now

A bullet in the head would be my option - but, sadly, he will only get 12 months ban and not be able to get cheap insurance for 5 years

Not much cos the justice system seems to not give a **** about offences like that.

The guy who killed a dear friend of mine - threw him 100 odd yards off his bike - received a pitiful 12 month sentence and ban.

Fantastic for taking someone's life.

Based on a mate who crashed his car into a wall (amusingly enough it was his neighbours wall, and he was driving from his house to go to the pub ) he's looking at an 18 month ban.
This was about 4 years ago now, since which time he has not partaken in any drink driving so it looks like it worked. Whether it was the ban, or the amount of abuse he took for it, is open to debate

Thanks for the input. For what it's worth if I ever meet him I'll give him a verbal slap for being a total *****. Seems he went to the Motor Show, got p1ssed, train back to his car then tried to drive home. Spent the night in the nick and now is in serious bother with his wife.

Is the ban directly related to the amount over the limit?

In our local paper there are at least 1/2 dozen cases a week and the minimum they get is 12 month ban, often 18months and sometimes 2-3 years. If they have previous I've seen some get 4 months prison sentance. They never ever get off with it no matter what excuse is given.

Don't know what "well over the limit " means but minimum of 12 months disqualification plus fine up to some years ban plus a stretch inside. Depends on mitigation but seems that from the info provided in this case the aggravation outweighs the mitigation.

Over heard a guy the other day saying he could have his licence back in 9 months (12 month ban) if he did some extended driving test of some sort.

It was his first offence. (also heard that bit)
