No, not really - and certainly not legally.
The threshold for duty and VAT is about £18, so if you bring in DVDs one at a time you should be OK. Customs go on the declared value on the invoice, which usually goes on the outside of the box, so it all depends on what value the sender puts there.
If you physically travel abroad and bring stuff back with you, then you get a duty free limit, but that's only of the order of £200.
Andy.

I've always explained to the company sending the package that we get hit at this end too and ask for them to put the costs down as of no commercial value. I've never had a company refuse to do this, it's no skin of there nose is it?
Got to be worth an email, they can only say no.

Get them to send it privately, with no documentation as to costs, like a gift
Send it labelled Free Samples
Send it duty paid ( at the senders end )
Send it as a Warranty Returned item.
Put a false value on it, instead of £3000, put £300. That way you may pay duty, but it will be a lot less.
Some parcels get through, some dont, but some of the above will improve your chances.
Worst thing to do is include purchase receipts. Get them posted seperatley, so there is no indication of value with the actual parcel. As for insurance value, dont inculde one, as sometimes they will try and charge duty on this value. I just wonder what they would do if you said it was priceless
