On Friday on my way home, I noticed a house for sale in an area not far from where I currently live (less than 200meres). I inquired about the price and arranged a viewing on Saturday and Sunday.
I put in an offer on Tuesday lunch time, and put mine on the market Tuesday evening, the same evening a viewing was arranged foe Wednesday lunch time.
I have just been offered £500 less that my asking price, of course I accepted, and will be arranging my mortgage tonight.
Now that is what I call an impulse buy, I certainly did not intend to buy a house this weekend! (I think I am still in shock)

We put our house on the market in mid-July, accepted an offer on Sept 7th, and with some luck will be exchanging on Monday. And that's with a 2-house chain (we're going to rented, and our buyers are selling to FTBs).

Our last house sale/purchase.
The paper came out on Saturday, we saw it in the paper on Sunday afternoon, found the house, looked round the o/side, liked it & rang 1st thing Monday morning, wife saw it @ 12:00 (1st person) & offered asking price which was accepted.
We contacted our local estate agent on Monday afternoon, he came round measured up, told us he had a buyer in mind & they came round Monday evening & they had agreed to what we wanted by Tuesday midday! We did get to see the particulars in draft form
Exchanged by 5 weeks too...

I've just moved - what a nightmare
one house I looked at - 1st advertised Thurs pm local rag,
I viewed Friday - put offer in Fri pm £3k over asking price.
was told 12 people already lined up to view the house over the weekend.
by Monday - they had 9 offers - I lost out - God knows what it went for.
(selfish mode on) hopefully prices will rocket now and make me a nice pension on my new one when I sell. (selfish mode off)

Sold the last house I lived in with my parents just before they went on holiday, had 5 weeks till moving date.
They went on holiday for 3 weeks, I had to find them a new house!
Found a house the friday evening they were due back. Put in a cheeky offer (30k below asking price) guy talked me up to 20k below and we agreed. He thought I was wasting time as I was a 21 year old just agreeing to buy a £220,000 house. Parents viewed the house that evening, agreed to buy, completed 2 weeks later!

I'm moving to a rented house - we'll be spending the next 6 months looking for a decent new house to buy, or a plot to build on.
<selfish mode on>Hopefully interest rates will quadruple in the next few months, maximising the return on my cash equity from the house we're selling, and forcing a huge housing market crash, allowing us to pick up a 7-bed mansion for about 10p as cash buyers</wishful thinking mode off>

Of course not Davyboy.
And that nice Mr Brown has once and for all put an end to the boom and bust economy all by himself
The jitters are already there. Rents are falling, because too many people have bought to rent out, causing over-supply of rented accomodation and a shortage of houses to buy...
I reckon it's got to settle, and possibly fall...

I think they will settle and I think they are doing that now, I don't think they will drop like they did (for the first time ever) in the late eighties.
To be honest I dont really care, lifes to short to worry about such things, but hopefully i will have a nice house, that I only have a mortgage for 50% on.
If the worse comes to the worse we will have to sell our other house I guess.

red_dog,
I'm doing the same at the moment. Sold my old flat for a tidy profit earlier this year. Not gonna buy anything until houses start selling for sensible amounts again.
A few months ago I looked at a nice house that was on the market for 80k (2k less than it's surveyed value). I expressed an interest to the estate agent and she advised me that they already had several offers in that were over 100k??? Needless to say i walked away.

I can see an adjustment of a couple of percent, but I can't see any reason for prices to come crashing down.

I had an offer for 98k accepted on a flat in the summer, came to the day we were supposed to exchange and the **** decided he actually wanted 120K and wouldnt sell for less Wasnt happy.
Ended up buying a nicer flat for 100k, spending 4k on it and now worth 120k four months later
Hopefully i can still set it for that next summer and pocket some £££...i'll need it....moving to London with my boys

Have heard the same from many others.
Have you noticed the prices in Northampton starting to go down Davyboy? Looks that way to me and the largest estate agent in Northampton has had to reduce alot of prices Just shows how inflated they were 4-6 months ago i guess. Good luck with your sale though

Once to a stupid couple, who after 3 months did not have a mortgage!
And now to a cash buyer.
