In the last month or so a couple of new Gatso's have been installed in Ayr. They are a nice shade of dark blue, and not that obvious from a distance. Am I correct in thinking that all cameras should now be brightly coloured?

sounds like TruVelo, do they point forwards? if so:

3 rubber hoses set into the road across the road, the hoses are set 1m apart, not to be confused with traffic counting devices which only have 2 hoses

The yellow painting is done to adhere to regulations if the constabulary using them wishes to participate in the scheme for reinvesting a proportion of its speed camera revenues into funding more cameras. If you get caught by a non yellow one you still get done.
