I am in the process of getting a computer at home and was thinking about Telewest or BT broadband.
Probably swinging towards BT anyone got any comments on them ?
Is BT broadband OK ?

Thanks
Jas

That will be a Cable Modem Connection with Telewest or an ADSL connection with BT. If going ADSL Id look at other ISP's other than BT - just make sure you get an Ethernet setup as opposed to USB. There is a website that compares the performance, customer service etc of each ADSL ISP every month or so, but for the life of me I cant remember it. Hopefully someone else can.

sideways,

noooo do not go with bt openworld - they are the pits. If you wanna know who is doing the biz check out www.adslguide.org which will tell you. Its normally Nildram and Zen who come out best for ADSL.

cheers

hardly any decision between Telewest and ADSL. If you can get cable there is no point considering ADSL. Games are better on cable (almost half the ping), its cheaper, and a damn sight more reliable.

Also, all my friends on ADSL find that it tends to "cut" every other nite (and no not all on BT-OW).

Hmm dunno what ADSL youve been looking at but the pings are very similar to my NTL cable. Ping is not the be all and end all where gaming is concerned. Id rather have a higher ping in CS with less choke and loss.

I still reckon ISDN is the best connection for CS (well unless your talking leased lines but not many of us can afford one at home). The fact you can change ISP's easily is a great advantage for a clan player who needs reliable connectivity during match games.

I have AOLs broadband and have had no problems however others have. One big problem with ADSl can be if you get the blue copat modem. It doesn't like some chipsets.

I do have friends with BT Openworld ADSL and wouldn't recomend it, mainly because they have been known to restict downloads and/or speeds.

If on cable then Blueyonder is alledgedly the way to go. No cable near me though!

Yeah, my Telewest Broadband is fine, not had any real problems with it. Go for it. At least if you get any problems, your mate will be on hand to sort it.

Cheers.
