Just come back into work. As some of you may know I keep "exotic" pets...

They live at work because one of them escaped and the wife told me to remove them from the house (small child being rather vulnerable she said)

Yesterday as it 'appens I had an argument with my boss about why in a morning sometimes one of the sliding glass doors was open about 10mm. I TOLD him it was the spider trying to escape, he insisted it was our employees being nosey and leaving it open...

Guess what Ive just come back to find?

Yep..sliding door open 15mm and THIS beastie missing in the open plan office somewhere!!!!!!!!!!!

Updates to follow....

WHERE THE HECK IS IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would be out of the office, into the car and driving down the road (at a safe and sensible speed (well he engine needs to warm up)) as soon as you told me it was missing!

there are 6 desks in this office, countless filing cabinets, cupboards, corners, free standing partitions causing MOR corners etc...

There are safety shoes, cables, plastic bags etc etc..

it could be in ANY of them!!!!!!!!!!!!

My tarantula hunting kit consists of - a long handled artist paintbrush, some gardening gloves and a round plastic tub with a lid.

Im going carefully as Im sure you can guess. One guy is poking under his desk with an umbrella..

Anyone would think a 10 inch legspan tarantual was scary

I think the rather liberal policy of allowing pets at work may be revised in short order!

Hope you find it somewhere other than at someone's neck or under someone's boot!

Must admit, I usually dont mind spiders etc, but my response to being at work after that hamster with 8 legs being let loose would be

"not a chance in hell until it's caught"

Unhappy

They are not coming back home!!!!!!!
The experience of one escaping was enough (not to mention the escaping crickets that would churp all night long). The spiders used to live in the spare bedroom which is were I took James to feed him during the night, until one morning I was told one had escaped during the night - so basically myself and baby had been in a room with a beastie on the loose. I was not amused and headed straight off to the inlaws until said animal was caught. Once caught (in a chest of draws sat on top of some socks)they were all shipped of to Raze-Buzz's office, where his father and other colleagues now live in fear!

And now 'cos his scorpion has stopped he has an empty section in the tank so god only knows what will be living in there by the end of the week.

Question

Fancy a camel spider in the empty tank? There was a good picture of one on here not long ago. I never did find out why it had 10 legs if it's a spider?
My bro in law came back from Australia last year. One day, while out there, his eldest asked him to tighten the saddle on the BMX he went to school on. Rob turned it ovet to get at the nut, and found a Red-Back under there, complete with web, and about 1000 babies just hatching. Kid had been riding the bike with it there for days!

Apparently, (and I'm sure Raze can put me straight here) the bigger the pliers the less poisonous they are.
So avoid the ones with fat tails and little nippers!!

They're all feckin ugly tho!

Absolutely RIGHT Mufasa. Thats one of the reasons I wasnt overly impressed with that woman spending days with some of those. They were all harmless to humans (apart from the odd alergic reaction), just like bumble bees.

Update on the hunt anyway : FOUND IT!!

After all the desks moved, wellies shaken, coats THOROUGHLY beaten with shoes etc we found it behind a filing cabinet next to the "Guests" chairs! Scary thing is we have had a few visitors today before we knew it was out.

Moved the cabinet, herded it back into a tub, and shoved it back into its tank after Blue Tacking the door so it cant open

Slightly aggressive. Sounds about right, if by Slightly then mean "Attacks water poured into an open dish in the tank". Maybe its some strange useage of the word slightly Im not familiar with.

Question

Hey, Buzz, if you know about spiders, what sort of spider lives in a hole about the diameter of a forefinger, in France, (South of), and is aggressive enough to attack, and pull at, a piece of dead grass I poked down the hole? It even came out of it's hole after the grass!

Saw the hole while setting up the barbecue. Thought: "mouse? 'cos if it is, we're off this site once wifey sees it."
Altered position to see down it, (looking for evidence of said mouse), and saw what appeared to be a claw. Thought it was a scorpion, so poked the grass down to disturb it out, and then kill it. Out shoots this ginormous spider! I've never jumped back so quick in me life. Quick visit to the toilets to change me grunds, and I'm back, trying to get it to come out again, so's I could bop it. It did, and I did!

Some sort of Trapdoor spider I expect..

Amen Corner -the blue tac is squashed into the door runner, so the door wont slide. Its only a spider, its not Geoff Capes
