They used to be ivory, but I believe they're now made of a high-density polyurothene or some such material. Then they're just polished until they're perfectly spherical.

Here we go. Snooker/Pool/Billiard ***** are made of cast phenolic resin plastic. It's cast into blocks, which are then cut & polished down to a perfect sphere. If you google for 'snooker cast phenolic resin', you'll find plenty of sites with more details.

MarkO, you really MUST have the worlds best job... you've been trawling all morning on Scoobynet, and I'll bet you are on pay
Yes, this morning's time has all been invoicable, since 7am.
TBH, though, it's getting a bit boring. I keep submitting progress reports to my project manager along the lines of:
This Week's tasks: Not much, a few ad hoc requests.
Next Week's tasks: Anything else that comes up.
He hasn't got the hint yet though, so I guess until something productive comes along it'll have to be SN and the web.

I hate it in the office, but luckily I get to go out lots and drive about the country. Only go in the office when there is a mountain of papers to deal with, otherwise I "should" be out on the sites around the country, shouting at dullards.
Today Im mostly waiting for the boiler repair man, "sometime between 10 and 2 sir" .... :|

Ive got the best I can! What MORE can I do?
Thats the only problem with having our own phone exchange seperate from the BT network - I have a serious lack of choice. 512 through the local phone company, or no broadband at all.
