Euro v £ fluctuations

Brother-in-law has a question and I thought I would post on here for some help:
He is sending large amounts of monies to dealers (cars NOT drugs)in Germany and Holland, but sometimes the value of the Euro/£ changes between the deal and when the monies are sent.
Does anyone have experience/knowledge of buying currency in largish amounts - or can you point me in the right direction?

Heres what I do when doing this kind of transaction.
I pay my best mate who lives in Basle, Switzerland (bank transer) and then he pays the dealer in Euro's
Helps if you have a friend in Europe mind!!

I've moved £30K to Spain simply by taking it in cash and using a local exchange bureau that offers commission free exchange.
Better rates than banks and no charges.
Best I did was 14K at 168.5E/£1 when bank rate was 159E, they would have charged £30 at each end if transfered.
