The "Gatsos" with the IR lenses are actually Truvelos! They face frontwards and use an IR flash for the photograph so they don't dazzle you but are activated by sensors under the road. Look closely and you should see three thin lines running through the tarmac across the length of the road. Unfortunately your 550 isn't going to be able to detect this. Those slow down signs normally usr radar though

I had the same feeling about my Bell 550 when I first had it but it scared me half to death when it detected an active gatso (quite a few near me !).
Remember it can only detect an active Gatso ! Its suprsing how many Gatso are not activated !

Have a Bel 990i (replaced by the 550) and I don't believe it detects the slow down signs either but then it is fun setting them off.. I mean I never go fast enough..
The forward facing camera's are a pain!
I tend to find on a section of road with say 4 gatso, only one is active and they move it about ever 4months or so..
Still cannot speed through a non-working one even though the detector says it is not on.. just a mental thing..

havent really had a good chance to test it out yet really. I suppose, ideally a good long run is in order.
The ones in my town arent being picked up at all. Just as well I know where they all are Im assuming that these are infra red ones? and my bell 550 WON'T ever sense them.. agreed?
Are there other camera's which look exactly the same i.e have a grey pole, with box on top) sorry for the cr@p desription... lol
Just interested in more info I keep it on motorway mode, as the manual say's that on this mode, EVERY band width is on..!?
thanks

Bel550's aren't supposed to pick up the "Slow Down" signs. As far as i remember from what Networx Automotive told me, they aren't radar activated, it's something in the road similar to Truvelo.
My Geodesy detects Truvelo. To be 99% safe, you need both Geodesy and Bel550.
