Longshot - calling Spannish Mobiles

Girlfriend is in Spain for an extended period of time. Apart from investing heavily in EasyJet - I'd like to be able to call her. Unfortunately there's no phone where she is. So am thinking if she got a pay-as-you-go mobile in Spain (Madrid) is there a cost effective way for me to call it (ie, sub 10p per min)

UK mobiles will work in Spain anyway.
Text messages are the cheapest way to communicate at about 30p a shot. If you make a call both the sender and the reciever pay about 60/70p a minute.
