What fun we are having tonight.

Using all the numbers and BODMAS / * + - and Squares etc
make as many numbers from 1 to 20 as you can.

The numbers to use are 2, 2, 2, 2, 2

Before my head imploded I got this far

01 = ((2/2)+(2/2)/2)
02 = ((2*2)/(2*2))*2
03 = (2/2)+2*(2/2)
04 = (2+2+2+2+)/2
05 = (2+2+2)-2/2
06 = (2+2+2)*(2/2)
07 = (2+2+2)+(2/2)
08 = ((2*2)/2)*2*2
09 = (((2*2)to the power of 2))+2)/2
10 = (2+2+2+2+2)
11 = (((2/2)+2)to the power of 2)+2
12 = (2*2)to the power of 2 - (2+2)

Arrrgh my head is hurting
NE maths boffins out there who can stop my head exploding ?

Posted on behalf of my missus.

"I've got it if we are allowed to round up to the nearest whole number.....

[(2+2) to the power of 2] + 2 + cos2 = 18.9999 ie 19"

Apparently!

9 is easier as (2 * 2 * 2) + (2 / 2)
12 is (2 * 2 * 2) + (2 * 2)

14 must be ((2 * 2 * 2 *2) - 2)
15 is (((2 * 2) ^ 2) - (2 / 2)))
16 is ((2 * 2) ^ 2) + 2 - 2
17 is (((2 * 2) ^ 2) + (2 / 2)))
18 is ((2 * 2 * 2 * 2) + 2)
20 is (((2 * 2) ^ 2) + 2 + 2)

just 13 and 19 to go

Unhappy

don't reckon they can be done with just those numbers (unless square doesn't use a 2)

I guess this is cheating....

13 = (22 + 2*2)/2
19 = 22 - 2 - 2/2

1 can be had from 2^(2-2), ie: 2 to the power 0, which is 1.
This can be put in elsewhere to get numbers like 13 and 19.

Wink

Yeah, but that uses too many twos. 2/2 also equals 1.

Still can't get that n-n-n-nineteen...

But you're only allowed to use BODMAS (BIDMAS in my day). Brackets, indices, division, multiplication, addition and subtraction. Cosines aren't any of those.

Cheers Squizz. If I find a calculator I'll test that one out later

Cannot imagine what is in store for me when the kid gets out of primary school to 1st year secondary ? Nuclear Physics, Quantam Mechanics, space time theory.

Maybe by second year she'll have to do all this in binary in Japanese whilst levitating - All perfectly reasonable to expect of a 11 / 12 year old child Mr Blur !!!!

19= ((2/.2)x2)-(2/2)
13= (2/.2) + 2 + (2/2)

Now that deserves a medal!!!!!
