driving up the M1 this afternoon i was passed by a bmw coupe, hmm i thought i'll get him back. We got upto the 95-100mph mark when there it was - police range rover parked on a bridge :-(
question is, can he do anything? he didn't move after me/us so i know an on the spot fine is out but would he have photo evidence like the vans use?

It depends...
Sometime people are nicked in this fashion, sometimes the police are just there as a deterant, I have done the same @ much greater speed and heard nothing (on my private stretch of motorway obviously )

Alternatively many moons ago in a vr6 i passed one on a bridge and when i looked in the mirror once past, i could see the tripod legs that was standing up behind the front of the land rover where you couldnt see it
sneaky sod was hiding it with the front of the car so only the little box sticking above the bonnet which i didnt see.
3 points arrived in the post 5 days later

And another one I've seen is a police car on a motorway bridge with police motorbikes on the slip road picking out people speeding! Obviously you didn't have that...

A lot of time when you see the cops sitting somewhere, they are just stuffing their faces. I have lost count of the times I have driven past Tescos, to find 2 police cars parked outside, in the no parking area of course, only to see them coming out with their shopping.
In fact, all they seem to do is stuff their fat faces.

Are the police actually allowed to use a drive thru, and then eat in a marked car, whilst on duty?
I know they are allowed (if they are married)to sh4g other peoples wives, drink several beers at BBQs then drive, speed and jump red lights when ever they feel like, try to entice you to race them(unmarked car),chit chat to drunken females outside the local night club exchanging numbers, all while on duty. But Im not sure about the drive thru...........

Similar thing happened to me on the M11 last Tuesday morning. Went underneath a Police marked Volvo estate which had a little tripod on the roof. When I looked back I think he had gone so I booted it a bit more and got off the next junction in case he was gonna catch me and give me an on the spot fine. He didnt. Here's hoping he didnt get me - got the nasty 14 days or so to wait to find out. But Im convinced the tripod thing looked like a mini gatso as shown on ukspeedtraps.com
Just hope that he had to book me there and then
