A torch can be carried in your car/person legally and if it happens to fall to hand then it makes a good means of defence.

as far as when/if you use it then you have to weigh up situations on an individual basis, more than one peron then perhaps not, depends on many factors and just how wound up you are, Adrenaline can do strange things to ya.

I keep one in the car by the drivers seat and one by the bed, never had to use them but will if i need to, say if i get a powercut

It is down to the person.

an 8 cell maglite weighs around 5 or 6 lbs lbs and is 16 inches long, it is a big heavy solid 'weapon' as well as being a good torch.

If i hit you (not that i would) with this you would go down and stay there, if i jabbed you with it i could break a rib or two, i am not talking a bout a bit of rough and tumble play fighting like at school or such.

I am 6' weigh 16 stone have had military training and did Shotokan Karate so chances are the scumbag is on a hiding to nothing.

Its horses for corses, if i was approached by four blokes with guns and knives then the car/whatever is theirs.

Credit me with a bit of savvy!

Its down to circumstances and the individual.

paul, if i was car jacking you you better make sure i do go down, cause i will be tooled up..im not bothered about "ohh, could it be called a weapon" i will just have a weapon. im not fussed about reasonable force, i'll just use force and i wont give a to55 about your "training" cause i spend every other day getting in fights.

im after a small and compact one for my girlfriend.

you can buy C$ gas in France and such like or Pe88er spray in the states, my preference is the pepper spray, seen it in action!

Both illegal in the UK - however i would rather get busted for carrying one than get fu**ed up by a junkie/scumbag for my car or possessions

I don't think any of them would be legal or do any good. Try a small handbag sized hairspray, that would do the trick.
Anyway, if in the situation where a girl is being attacked, would she say "hold on a sec till I get something out of my handbag/pocket" etc. In my opinion they are more likely to be used by the muggers themselves.

anyone know how to use a maglight against an attack?

do you show it off as some sort of visual deterent? do you show it of before or after the mugger/jacker starts to pummel you?

do you actualy use it to hit the attacker? if so do you aim to kill him or just hurt him (and if you just hurt him do you hit him again when he know attacks you with greater severity? )

oh, and if there are two or hes stronger or hes quicker or hes better at beating people up or he has a knife or he has a gun do you realise you're an idiot for trying to knock him about with a torch before or after you wake up in hospital?

If you use CS gas,and pepper sprays,etc,it is now classed as a firearms offence,so if your going down that road you may aswell get the Desert Eagle .50.Fits nicely in your glove box

you are kidding i assume? you are attacked by a car jacker, a criminal who operates on the wrong side of the law for a living, someone who has probably been in fights since he was able to walk, someone who is pumped and ready to do what it takes to get your car.......and you are gonna jab him with your tourch?

Why not just use the car as a weapon? You'd get away with a lesser sentence if you do get caught anyway.

It all depends on the person at the end of the day.

If i was car jacked by men with knifes and guns i'll give them my car and wot every they want (anything but my arss) but if the situation looks to my advantage i'll do or use anything i have to protect myself and loved ones. i dont care if the object i used is classified as a weapon because i WILL NOT hang around for the police.
